Epstein Barr virus.

Hello all.

I have a feeling that PBC may be triggered by the Epstein Barr virus ( ie Mono) which most of us have in north america. I say this because my husband developed RA and I developed PBC soon after being diagnosed with EBV. At present my lymph nodes are enlarged and I have PBC but no malignancy. Increasingly Im finding EBV present in so many diseases including periodontal disease. Please do ask your MD to do a blood test.

Trouble is, 50% of the population have had it, and most of them don't have autoimmune problems!

Interesting. I’ve never had mono. PBC is my primary disorder but I’m guessing like a lot of other things, it can be brought out by certain triggers.

I always suspected EBV was the trigger in my case, so I’ve looked into it. Turns out EPV is associated with a lot of autoimmune diseases, not just PBC

My family and I have always felt mono did something to me. After I had it I was never the same. No energy, got sick a lot more. Before mono I was hardly ever sick. My doctor said I had an extremely high mono count. The highest he’d seen in 10 years of practice. I feel it definitely triggers it somehow.
