Had two liver scans within 2 years. First one 0.1. Second 11. Should I be worried? Or could something be slightly off.

Can I ask what your doctor is saying about it. Also, what kinds of liver scans did you have on both occasions?

I had another scan done about a month ago but my appointment with my dr isn’t until June. I phoned the office today to get the results but my dr isn’t in. He was curious about why the big difference. That’s why I had another done

And I had complete abdominal scans done on both occasions. Same machine same office. Different technicians.

What kinds of liver scans? Fibroscan, ultrasound, MRI? Do you know what kind?

Fibroscan for both.

Thank you. Fibroscans aren't 100% accurate but when it comes to predicting fibrosis or cirrhosis then fibroscans have been shown to have a high degree of accuracy. Still that IS a huge increase in just 2 years.

I wonder if either your first one was correct or this last one? Surely you've had labs and other tests over this past 2 years that would have shown some indication of progression going on.

Are you on URSO?

I am going to get the results from my scan I had done about a month ago it will be interesting to see the results.

Yes I’m taking urso and have been for a few years. But recently my enzymes started to increase again. My Gasteoenterologist tells me if it continues then he will switch my medication to apparently a new one that has recently come out.

The only bad side affect is itching. Honestly I don’t know if I can with stand the itching again. It still bothers me a little depending on the day. But to take medication knowing I will itch is going to drive me crazy. 😞

Yes, I'm on Ocaliva, 5mg. No itching so far. But, no improvement either. Wish you could get in to see your doctor sooner. The new drug Seladelpar is said to possibly REALLY slow progression of fibrosis AND no itching!! I'd try to get in on that 3rd leg of the trial if I were you. Ocaliva does cause itching in a high percentage of people. Since you already experience that, well, that's probably not a good sign. It's worth the research..... I am awaiting a phone call from my dr assistant to let me hopefully know my results. This will be the 3 rd scan I have had done.

So what’s the difference between ocalvia and seladelpar.

Seladelpar being the new drug? Then what exactly is ocalvia

All of these drugs work differently to accomplish the same thing. Slow progression. I sent you a link for Seladelpar. For a more detailed answer to your question, you'll have to ask your hepatologist. I can't begin to explain how these drugs work. I don't know. I'm so thankful though that there are a few options out there for us. Especially when the first line of defense doesn't work. ❤

Looking at your first scan of 0.1. Are you certain this was using the fibroscan technology that uses a KPa measurement, the way you’ve presented the reading seems more like this is a Ml/s reading not a Kpa. A normal fibroscan reading is presented between 2kpa, to 7kpa. With 5.3 being the average normal liver reading. Your second reading of 11, seems more in keeping with the Kpa measurement.

There is a technology called a sheerwave elastography that measures in Ml/s make sure your not confusing the two, readings Ml/s and Kpa/s are worlds apart. For an example my reading in Mls was 1.6 when I asked for a translation into kpa i felt I understood this more, I was told not to try and cross reference as it would not be accurate. The shearwave is done the same as fibroscan so you may not have noticed a difference during the scan itself.

But as always your doctors are the best judge of how your doing, the scans are a useful tool to help your doctors determine your care plan, the scans are only one part of that picture.

Honestly I have no idea. I know same machine using fibroscan but that’s the results my Gasteoenterologist gave me. That’s why he wanted another one done ASAP. Wanted to compare to see if something was off somewhere. It seems a bit drastic making me think it’s not right. Either first one was wrong or second.

When I get the results of the third will let you know what it is.

Yes it does seem a big difference, hopefully the next one will give you some idea. Try not to worry, and do let us know how it goes.

Still haven’t heard from the dr. Either the assistant didn’t give him the message or they are not responding.

I’m going to call tomorrow again 🤔

Well liver results went from which I thought said 11 but in reality was 12.2 down to 5.98. So not sure how the reading goes but anything that dropped is always a good sign. I got the results from the dr assistant and didn’t ask many questions. Just that I know my dr is pleased with the results. 😊
