High ALP and itching

After a year on Urso my ALP is still in the mid-500's (down from mid 700"s). Wondering if the occasional really itchy day is related to the high ALP level? I take 3 prescription meds. for the itch and it is better than a year ago.

At my last Dr's appointment he mentioned that we'd discuss adding Ocaliva when I see him next month.

No, from all the medical journals I’ve read, there is no correlation between symptoms & labs or actual state of your liver.

One of urso’s side effects is itching though.

My doctor recently said that itchiness could be a symptom of the PBC progressing based on how high my liver enzymes are.

From the American Association for Study of the Liver, about pbc on page 12 of the link included below.

The major symptoms of PBC are fatigue and itching. There is not a good correlation between these symptoms and stage of disease, although patients with more advanced disease generally have more symptoms.

Hi, yes I agree with ninjagirl about the ALP/itch. So you had a partial response to Urso, and hopefully Ocaliva may get your numbers down more, fingers crossed! Just a thought, are you definitely on the right Urso dose for your weight?
