Can someone explain why it’s better to take the cholestyramine powder before breakfast and one after breakfast? The directions says take one if before breakfast and one before another meal. If we take the powder before breakfast and one after breakfast does that help the itching a lot better. I’m been taking the powder like instructed states on the packet and I don’t feel like it helps me with my itching as much.
Thank you

Hi! The doctor told me to take cholestyramine in the middle of the day. Ursobilane in the morning and the evening and cholestyramine in the middle. you have to wait atleast 2 hours between the 2 medications
I was advised to take my Questran exactly as you describe. Unfortunately for me it did not completely do the trick. Rifampicin was added and when that was not quite enough Sertraline was added to that. It is quite a cocktail and sometimes difficult to get all the medication in at the right times especially when I am wearing my forgetful head
If you are not already a member join the PBC Foundation (free to join through the icon above) in their Bear Facts Issue Spring 2015 (May 2015) there is a very god article which still holds good by Professor Neuburger on itching and the reason why cholestyramine is taken in the morning. Do not forget the time restrictions on cholestyramine relative to other drugs details can be found in your patient information leaflet (PIL) Cholestyramine also takes a while to get into the system.
