SKin/Hair care products with Alcohol

Hi,

Are any beauty care products containing alcohol or strong ingrediants like in "Quench Dermalift by Kate Sommerville" not good for the Liver? For about 10 years, I have been only using 80% organic items, but I still came down with a Positive AMA and potential PBc.

I don't know anything about the skin care products, but just having AMAs does not automatically mean you will get PBC. At least 2 diagnostic tests need to be positive, for PBC to be formally/officially diagnosed.

Some people 'just' have AMAs. UK Blood Donor statistics suggest that about 10% of the population have AMAs, but with no sign of PBC, and only about 1.5% - 2.0% of these ever go on to develop PBC.

It does depend - to some extent - on whether you have symptoms of PBC, and on your own health history, and that of your family. However, you should have more regular blood tests to check your liver function tests (lfts) for further signs of PBC, (possibly being tested fairly frequently, now), but then down to once a year if no signs of PBC appear after a few months. It's been known I have AMAs since 1992 and I still don't have any signs of PBC, and am in good health.

Hope this helps, I wouldn't worry too much about things you took in the past being the cause, as there is no one cause of PBC. Take care and above all, try not to worry: always the worst for autoimmune conditions. Have fun, do things you love and try to enjoy yourself.

Greetings...Since our skin is the largest organ, I feel it is a good idea to use the purest products possible. It's not only the liver I'm concerned with, but all the other organs that would need to deal with the chemical laden products out there. I have been making my body butter for years now. Sometimes I buy them when I feel like spending the money for them, but find it much more economical to make then. There are many thoughts not only on skin products, but hair too. At some point, I need to draw the line. I still color my hair, but am very careful not to apply to the scalp. You have probably already started researching online to answer your questions. Lots of information there. Maybe look at some DIY recipes for face and body products. They are easy to make and take little time.

Best part is, you can control the ingredients and tweak them for your personal needs.

So I’m assuming you don’t wear cologne? Do you maybe use natural oils or what? I like to smell nice & had just bought a bottle of Georgio Armani Code when diagnosed. Too nice & expensive to ditch. Thoughts?

I do live nice scents too. If I wear my favorite light blue by Dolce & Gabani , I spray on clothing and in my hair a little. On the skin I use Kate's Magik. Moon Goddess or Sweet Marriage. Giving up some things is just too much!

Do you have a favorite essential oil you wear? I first discovered Kate's Magik while looking for an oil to use at the end of my yoga classes. I teach yoga til this day! At the end of class, I always give a little neck massage to those who want it. K.M. is very pure and won't break the bank. If you go to a natural foods store, you will find it and can sniff them all. I use the anointing oils. She makes others too, but the anointing oils are by far my favorite scents. On her website, you can find full ingredient lists of each oil. At around $15 per bottle, it's a good deal. for a class of 15 to 20 students, one bottle will last me over a month of two times weekly. Have a fun Sunday! I'm going to an 80th bday party and made a gluten free cake. Used the Simple Mills cake mix....hope it is super yummy...nice ingredients too. Ciao bella

I googled it. All has to be ordered online or is it available in any store?

I have found it at whole foods, Natural Grocers, Mothers(That's a California store). It will be about the same price everywhere other than Whole Paycheck, but at least you could smell them first. Of all the ones i've tried, my student love, love , love Moon Goddess. It has a jasmine base, maybe some ylang ylang too. Lovely scent that will stay with you quite awhile. let me know what you think when you source it. I like our Natural Grocers because it's about $1-2 less per bottle, but once you find your favorite, Amazon will get it to you for about $17. Best wishes on the adventure

I did go the the Grannary Organic Store. The lady advised me to discuss using essential oils with my dr. I understand they must be diluted with olive oil, almond oil or something else. Your thoughts?

Kate's Magic is in sweet almond oil. Yes, the person was right. Essential oil needs a carrier oil.

They only carry the “Now” brand. Know anything about it?

Don't know about the Now brand oils. Any whole foods near you?

Perfect. If they do not have the line, perhaps they would consider bringing it in. They have it here in As, and I always saw it in Calif. How exciting...Feel like a detective yet?

I agree about the skin being the largest organ which prompted my question. Due to the aging process, I have been forced to turn to stronger ingrediants and was dabbling with the Kate Sommerville product, but it literally has so many chemicals that I had to wonder. I usually enjoy using Josie Maran which is mostly Argan Oil gentle on the skin. When i was told I was on watch for PBc , I was all organic with face and hair, so I have to question whether that made any difference as to not coming down with PBC or liver issues.

Hello. I was diagnosed one year ago. One thing my dr made clear was pbc was caused by nothing I had done. I understand we all search our minds & try to figure it out. I’m sure there are many of us who do not use organic face creams, etc. many people continue life in moderation with no ill effects. So, be easy on yourself & don’t think you caused pbc in any way. 😊

Hey , I am using products of Modere for 2 years .And i am very satisfied . The our skin is the biggest organ on our body so for me is important to use natural creams and cosmetics. I'm concerned with it coz all the other organs in any way have to contact with chemicals . Hopefully Modere abodycandle.com/ reduces and removes questionable ingredients from everyday consumable items. The product lines got rid of potentially harmful and unnecessary ingredients and use only organics .I use collagen liquids , Biocell and Body Butter which contains combination of natural skin softeners: jojoba oil, avocado oil & cocoa butter. The prices are democratic , specially I was lucky to buy Modere Logiq™ Essential Collection on the 30% discount .
