New user here. Can someone help me with abbreviations you all use? Urso, AMA, etc?

Thinking about all this on top of the Fibro/CFS/ME is frightening after reading what everyone is going through. Is PBC more debilitating that Fibro/CFS/ME? My Dr. appt is next week, had Fibro/CFS/ME for 20 years and never heard of PBC before, but have all the hallmarks. Is there medications that help that I can suggest to my PCP? Thank you all in advance, and Happy Holidays!

Sincerely,

Christina

Hi,

Go to the PBC foundation- link above. Join the foundation ASAP. ( it's a separate membership from this peer support group)

You create a User Name and PW ( it's free). And then you will have access to current medical-scientific info about PBC.

As for your questions, once you join the Foundation- log in and you will have online access to the latest medical info on PBC. Under the existing members menu you will find a document called "compendium" Once you open this document scroll down to FAQ's and you'll find info about on AMA and other abbreviations from blood work results.

URSO is short for Ursodeoxycholic acid, the first line drug prescribed for PBC.

Hope this helps. It's holiday time so probably not lots of folks on the forum but the website I lis ed above is reassuring and informative.

All the best,

Eileen

I have recently been diagnosed with pbc but i am asymptomatic thats no symptoms at all i take ursofalk 3 capsules a day it was picked up on a routine blood test ama is the blood test for pbc ama m2 i think i dont know what ama stands for

Urso is the medication used for pbc and it is very effective

Its difficult having other illnesses along with pbc

Good luck with your tests

Important to have a good gastroenterologist or hepatologist

I attend a hepatologist here in ireland

ama-m2 is Mitochondrial antibodies which is a marker for PBC. You probably already had an answer to this but I just now saw your post😊
