Natural Alternative pbc?
Not as far as I'm aware. There is in fact no treatment as such for PBC it can't be cured only managed. Once you've got it that's it. Urso, & if a non responder we now have oclivia. Slows the progression. However I find it helps to eat as healthy as possible I can't drink alcohol it makes my fatigue horrendous & my specialist advises as little fat as possible. He likened it to washing a greasy dish. Strong detergent & red hot water which we haven't got in our bodies so if we're throwing greasy stuff into it then our liver & digestive system has to work twice as hard to clear it out.& That puts untold pressure on your liver. Xx
milk thistle is supposed to help livers... but check with gp that they are happy with you taking it. its not a cure though. x cazer.
In a word, no. If you want to slow progression you need to get on urso as soon as possible. Milk thistle and/or NAC are supplements that may be liver supportive, but can’t replace urso. As someone else mentioned, be sure to clear with your doctor. Best of luck to you.
Agree with everyone else. We are lucky that urso and ocaliva are available for us. I have researched a lot of anti inflammatory diets and have changed some things like avoiding dairy and sugar and eating a lot more fruits and vegetables in the hopes that also helps.
Yes I agree, watch your diet, an anti inflammatory diet is good ,you can google it. NAC and Tumeric gives me a pain in my side but milk thistle is nice and gentle. Sugar is a no no for everyone who seems to be sick, so try and cut that out or down.
Hope this helps, kandiepat
