Hi all.

I hope life treats you well. Does anyone take a good quality Spirulina powder? If so, do you feel it helps?

Thanks!

Hi, I put spirulina in my smoothies because it is a good antioxidant and source of vitamins and minerals. For me, its just part of an overall healthy diet. I order mine through Amazon. The brand I like is Maju Superfoods (I also like their Camu Camu for immune system support and its antinflammatory). There are hundreds of reviews on Amazon that might be helpful.

I also like Healthworks Goji Berries. I put them in my tea.

Thanks for your reply! I put some in my cashew yogurt in the morning. I was reading mixed reviews on whether to take it, but I am going to continue with it since it has such good properties! Do you follow a certain diet? I am doing mostly a raw food diet, but I do include the occasional gluten free carb and some fish into my diet.

I'm not on a particular diet. I just try to eat fresh, healthy foods that are easy to digest and high in antioxidants.

Hi. I really think you should check with your specialist before starting this particular supplement. If you look up side effects possible liver damage is mentioned. Having said that, you will also find online sites saying it is beneficial to the liver! Although these do seem to be the sites selling it! Always better to be safe than sorry, so if I were you I would check with a specialist.

Hi youaremysunshine

I had a look at this on google and have copied a portion from the article.

Cautions About Spirulina

Those with PKU should consult with a doctor before taking, as it does contain that amino acid. Those on any type of anti-coagulation medicine should consult with a doctor before beginning (or stopping) taking Spirulina. Some people with autoimmune disease do not do well with this supplement. If you are pregnant, nursing or have any medical condition, check with your doctor first as it is often not recommended for pregnant or nursing women.

I see that it contains copper which I understand is not good for people with more advanced liver conditions. Can you ask your doctor about taking this supplement? The general advice from most PBC sites is to eat a healthy well balanced diet with plenty of water and no sugary drinks.

Perhaps a chat with a dietician may be of some use to you.

best wishes

Dear Kristine

When I took it along with chlorela my liver enzymes went up. It was a few years ago .when I stopped taking them my enzymes went back down to normal except my gamma . This was about four years ago.
