Has anyone been given beta blockers to reduce varices?
Have they helped what are the side effects?

I was placed on Lasix but no beta blockers for me. My GI & heptologist decided against it due to my blood pressure has always been a bit on the lower side of things.
Thanks Shulsey for the information. Are you in the UK or USA. Do you have any feedback on the Lasix side effects etc . Also you seemed to have some knowledge of Beta blockers. I have an appointment with my GP tomorrow morning. Any info would be useful.
I know nothing about beta blocker, just that it thins the blood. The only side effect of the Lasix is I pee almost every 15 minutes for about two hours😳
Hi Shulsey
That's because it is a duretic.
I am already on this in the uk it is called furesemide.
It is to reduce the fluid in your body without creating unnecessary pressure on the veins . Causing them to rupture or leak Hi I want to thank you for your info this is a great encouragement
Hi ... i am in UK was put on propranolol 80mg which i reduced to 20mg as was making me feel even more fatigued - always thought it was to stop varices (osphaegal) popping and me having a bleed but could be totally wrong 🤔 ... anyways am now on calvedilol 12.5mg as my consultant decided better option cos was not taking propranolol at amount they wanted me to ... hope this helps 🤗
This is why I take the Lasix, to help keep the pressure off of the small varicies. I had three bleeds in May 2016, this is how I found out I had varicies. I'll do whatever it takes to avoid that experience ever again. It was as if I was in a horror show & I played the starring role😣
Hi
Beta blockers slow your heart rate down and lowers the force, I was prescribed after having a heart attack. They do make you feel tired, but not aware of any other side effects .
Hi Emerich
Thank you for your input. See the GP today. lets see what a day brings.
You're welcome. Just a thought, but I was taking the beta blocker with ramapril (to lower blood pressure, standard after a heart attack) in the morning for almost 3 years. Finally realised that I was really tired about an hour after taking them, hadn't really connected it before. About 2 weeks ago I asked about taking these at night instead, which was fine by gp, and it is so much better. I still often feel tired but not so bad I need to stop what I'm doing. Also it helps me fall asleep at night, which is a great bonus as I don't sleep well.
Good luck
