Liver enlarged: My liver is enlarged 17.5 cm... - PBC Foundation
Liver enlarged
The PBC Foundation is a good place to start. pbcfoundation.org.uk
They may be able to help better than anyone.
Best wishes
I need some sort of suggestions if the condition in such reading reports are severe requiring immediate treatment or this not up to that level. Some Hepatologist may help
Hi Suhailmuhammed,
Have you definitely been diagnosed as having PBC? This would usually be based on the presence of AMA antibodies, and, abnormal liver function blood tests ... unless you have had a liver biopsy that shows liver damage typical of PBC. Also, I would expect the consultant you saw to be advising the GP on the treatment and dosage. You can phone, email or write directly to your consultant to ask for more help and advice. If you have not actually seen a consultant - and preferably a liver consultant (hepatologist) rather than just a gastroenterologist - you need to see one. I've never heard of GPs deciding about PBC on their own.
I agree about talking to the PBC Foundation advisors. There is a link to their website at the top of the page. Click on there and you will find links to their trained advisors - you can phone or email - and they are really good.
I hope you get some answers.
Take care.
I have not been informed of PBC. I had consulted Hepatologist but here in Pakistan, they also work as Gastroenterologist as well. I need to enquire if the reports I have mentioned are normal or they are dangerous
Hi Suhail,
Okay. This website is mainly for people with PBC which is an autoimmune condition, and the tests for it are the two I mentioned above (the presence of AMA antibodies, and abnormal liver function tests). However, Urso is the main (only) treatment given for PBC, but I don't know if it is used to treat other liver conditions.
Unfortunately, I don't know much about the other details that you mention. We are not experts on here, we are just members of the public who have, or are at risk of PBC. However there may be some other PBC sufferers who read this and who may be able to tell you more about what the enlargement and fibroscan readings could suggest, as weel as commenting on the other medicines you mention.
However, it may still be better to contact the trained advisors at the 'PBC Foundation' link at the top of the page, then you could email the advisors.
Also, elsewhere on this 'Health Unlocked' site, there is a link for the 'British Liver Trust' . They deal in all sorts of liver conditions, not just PBC, and they may be much better and advising you on what the results and the medications indicate.
I hope this helps, and that you manage to get answers to your questions. Good luck
