I was wondering if anyone has had this done for portal hypertension? I have had several endoscopies with varices banding. I visited my Hepatologist this past week and he suggested I might want to consider this. From my research I have some concerns with the risks associated with the procedure. I would appreciate any feedback on this.

Yes I had the TIPS procedure for Portal Hypertension, the first lasted about a year and a half, then I had a bleeding episode, they put an extension on the TIPS and have been doing great so far, it's been almost 3 years....I would recommend it, it's a very small incision in the neck on the creasec so there is no scar, then after you have to wear a pressure bandage for about 3 days, all in all it's not a major procedure...
How do you know when it begins, what do you look for? Sometimes I just turn side to side while I'm lying in bed and see how the stomach reacts. Sometimes I look in the mirror. I just don't know what to look for. I'm really sorry but I have to quit for its 1:30 a.m. here and I have a lot to do tomorrow and I also have trouble falling asleep staying asleep. is that common with everyone else? Goodnight
