Paracetamol is what both my doctor and consultant has advised me.

Hi conniefused,

I remember at an early consultation with specialist that paracetamol was the only recommended pain killer. However I had a problem which had me hospitalized and they prescribed Co-Codomol but I only have PBC.

I seem to remember oil of cloves - I am pretty certain that can be put on painful teeth but how effective it is I am not sure. Perhaps someone on here has experience of natural remedies.

Do hope you manage to get something sorted before Friday.

best wishes

When I was a kid oil of cloves was a remedy for toothache as I remember. You could back in the 1970s buy a little bottle and you just dabbed it on. Not sure now.

I had low calcium (very low) but only discovered PBC in last 2 years before transplant, but for years I had teeth problems, eventually we realised the low calcium of which we were unaware eventually lost all my teeth....... how is your calcium? (sorry not much help regarding pain....)

Not sure if it will help as I've not tried it but when my sister had toothache for awhile several years ago and was scared at the time of dentists she used to use a bit of toothpaste and said it did actually work. Don't know how but she said it did. (She did by the way end up visiting the dentist eventually.)

Paracetamol seems the norm for pain relief but be careful and only take recommended dose as these things can be taxing to the liver as most medications can.

It is said though that medications can be used with PBC unless you are at a critical stage in PBC as early stages they are 'well tolerated'. I read this on one of the PBC Foundation leaflets, think the GP one.

Hi I am only in early stages of PBC but have been told by my GP and Consultant to stick to paracetamol and NOT to take ibuprofen.

Hi again conniefused,

Peridot also remembers Oil of Cloves so being curious just had a look on Amazon and they have

Dentogen Fast Toothache Pain Relief - Sugar Free Clove Oil Gel 10g which has a four and a half consumer rating out of 5

Paracetamol okay.not asprin or ibuprofen. Think paracetamol with codeine okay but probably check that one gp.also in desperation ive used cold sore gel dabbled on...figire if its okay for kids should be okay for our dodgy livers.

I heard paracetamol is the only painkiller. Also agree with oil of cloves". I can remember my mother always had a bottle in the cupboard, just not sure how effective it is. Depends on level of pain and tolerance. Hope you soon get relief.

Hi Conniefused . I know how you feel. Take a drop of brandy & let it into the painful tooth & hold it there for couple of mins. - it will heat up & burn the pain BTW no need to drink it! Pepper could be used as a substitute. Ambesol (if you can get it) was good also - just rub into gum. Like everything those only last a short while. Try keep the area heated even a scarf around your face helps to eliminate cold air. The dentist is the only longterm solution! Good luck.

Thanks for all your comments they have been so very helpful.....I have taken paracetamol just 4 in 24 hours and have some clove oil. It has helped a little in that the pain is just about tolerable. Heat is awful for it though and cold relieves the pain which is odd unless there is infection in there somewhere. I can't eat anything hot nor have my favourite redbush tea lol....roll on Friday when can get to dentist. Hope he can fix it lol.
