Hi I suffer from Crohn's disease as well as PBC and have in the past taken Mebeverine. A lot of the medicines I take tell me not to take if you have a liver condition and when I questioned my doctor he said it was ok. If your concerned visit your chemist as they will be able to give you the right advice.

All medicines say don't take or ask your doctor if you have liver disease even prescribed ones. It's mainly just to cover the pharmaceutical company. If the doc says it's ok then take them.

As Mcinnel2 states, you'll more than likely find that a lot of medications whether from a doctor of OTC are said to be either used with caution in patients with kidney or liver disease or not to take.

Personally I think a lot of it is a sort of cover for the pharmaceuticals as sadly in today's world we do live in no-one wants to be at fault for certain things as I have just read that great minds.....I've just noticed dianemle has stated the same thing! Sorry for repeating it, missed that bit.

On the other hand I also think that pharmaceutical companies are very underhanded in the fact that they seem to dictate what a patient has to receive and sadly doctors seem to go along with it. At the end of the day though it is all about money.

Something I have thought tho', Mebeverine, are your bloods gauged whilst taking this at all? That way I'm sure it could be decided whether this med is of some use or not with having PBC.
