Hello hannah1973.

I don't have Addisons but know a bit about it due to past experience.

If you have Addisons then you'll have to take a dose of steroid, not sure daily or weekly but the adrenal glands stop working so you are no longer producing your own natural steroid (adrenaline).

Hi Hannah1973,

I don't have Addisons currently but I do have adrenal antibodies which if they start to damage my adrenal glands will result in Addisons. It was actually while having these adrenal antibodies followed up with an endocrinologist that they accidentally found I was AMA positive and hence eventually my PBC diagnosis. Do you have symptoms of Addisons already?

I know it is an autoimmune condition and when you have one you are more susceptible to others (I have 4). I know it's controllable with medication. Good luck. X

I don't know anything about it, but I do hope you are ok x

I have a friend with Addisons. She takes Prednisone regularly and carries on life as if nothing is wrong - and she is partially blind so has as much to worry about as we do, but she doesn't!! Her main area of concern is if she gets a bug and starts vomiting. If she can't keep her medication down she has to go to hospital or she will quite quickly go into collapse.

I have Addisons disease. I was diagnosed in 2009. I take hydrocortisone, twice a day and fludrocortisone once a day. The most brilliant source of help can be found on the Addisons Disease Self Help Group. I think the website is adshg.org.uk but just search Addisons and you'll find it. It is also called Adrenal Insufficiency. Do go to the website. It will give you any info you need. It is worth coming a member too as the newsletters are full of info.

Take care.
