Yes, me too, it's because with PBC your absorption of iron, vitamins, nutrients is not good.

Hi fluffpuff64,have had PVC for 2 years had pernicious anemia over 12years ago,was told I would have to have injections ov b12 every 3 months for life?then told

by doc I don't need them anymore after 7years(strange),stopped 5years ago".but now bean told am very low again?now on folic acid&iron so think its related 2pbc, I itch every day and get very tired need a nap most days(drives me mad)!.On 1500mg urso a day-5mg prednisolone-omeprazole for heartburn, has anyone got white looking spots on cheeks that itch a lot have had them about 9 months now doctors don't know what they are.hope this helps, jackk9.

I think when we start with the blood tests at the start of it all (I went to GP with itching and fatigue in 2010), the full blood count also gets thrown in.

I know back in 2010 I was found to be mildy anaemic and had 28 days of iron tablets. I'd been anaemic in the past. Then other blood checks are monitored along the way to rule this and that out. I know ever since 2010 my HB has been just one point below the normal line. I have found out that for some, women in particular they can be just under what is considered normal, the body adjusts. Mine has tested out like this now for the duration I've been having blood checks for PBC.

I once did find the NHS pathway that is followed for abnormal LFTs and pernicious anaemia is one that is done long before PBC if PBC isn't suspected 'early in the game'. I know the AMA seemed the final blood check and if that turned up negative (mine was positive and the final blood check I had before diagnosis), then you'd probably be offered a liver biopsy.

Apparently pernicious anaemia is something to do with lack of Vit B12, the inability to make blood cells. I suppose thinking about it, if the body lacks certain nutrients or struggles to manufacture certain substances due to a glitch then I reckon could be open to other things developing.

Not sure about PBC though and pernicious anaemia being a cause of PBC starting up though as I understand it, if one has pernicious anaemia it isn't something that can be cured like PBC. Then again, with PBC I think anything could be possible for it starting up.

I suspect my PBC developed though having Hepatitis vaccinations in a job I had a few years before I started itching. But that is anyone's guess. I think we are all susceptible to certain things for instance if there was some epidemic, let's say 'flu for eg, not everyone would come down with it.

Thanks for your reply, very interesting and i agree with the points raised.I was diagnosed with PA two years before PBC, but looking back am sure i had PBC for years but was undetected,as the doctors blamed PA for all my symtoms.I often wonder how this developed but like most of us we will never really have the answer what intially trigered it.my own personal journey and theory,is that my problems started when i had my diseased gallbladder removed in 2006, and i swear i' ve never felt right since and my symtoms started to develop.

At least this forum is helpful and you can chat to real people that have or are expericing the same things and not some medical person telling you its not possible to be having certain symtoms, when you know its real and you are.

Best wishes
