Hi,

Perhaps yopu are not getting enough B12, or you have other deficiencies such as folate and or iron, or thyroid is not working propperly, all can be a fac tor, so your best bet is to go and see your GP, get some bloods done and if wise you get copies, to be able to see and know what has been tested and what is going downhill etc.

It irealy s important to have some monitoring of serum folate and ferritine (-iron storage) as all 3 (B12, folate, iron and B6) are needed for good blood production. It is quite common to over time become folate def,, a lot of B vitamins need each other to metabolise say, if you give a lot of one vitamin, others can deplete because of the imbalance say. My explanation is only using what I understand from reading things, but please note I am no expert!. A good multy (B) vitamin may be all you need.

If at all possible it would be good to have a blood test testing serum B12/ folate and ferritine to see if you are getting low etc, and thyroid function, besides having an "Active B12" test done to see if you are actually def at cell tissue level. Serum B12 is not a very accurate test of how much B12 is actually usuable for your body.

There is a large 'grey zone' between normal and abnormal serum B12 levels.

Clinically significant vitamin B12 deficiency may be present even with vitamin B12 levels in the normal range,

If you want to read up on the Active B12 test have a look at these sites:

You will find a lot more like minded people and info on the PAS forum:

I hope this helps,

Kind regards,

Thanks Marre

I shall be following your suggestions, for falling asleep at work is not a good look. I will check out the sites you have recomended, gen upon all the facts and then go see my doc and let em have it both barrels. For i am afraid my doctors are not the best in the world and it is rare to see the same one twice.

I am the same as you cotch57, except that i've been having the injections every 3 months for the past 4 years. Every time i go to gp i just get given iron tablets which make hardly any difference. i am back at the drs tomorrow as i'm getting steadily worse, and falling asleep while in charge of my 20 month old daughter is becoming more frequent, which causes me obvious worry that she will hurt herself. i hope you get the answers/help you need from your gp as i also hope for myself

Thanks Nessa I still havent been to docs like a typical male I keep putting it off though I have to say the practice i attend do nothing to make it easy to get an appointment. I'm glad I do not have to look after a young child whilst feeling like this my heart goes out to you. Oh and as for iron tablets i dont know about you but my body seems to pass them straight through and they make no difference whatsover. The honest truth is docs can manage pain but everything else is still a bit of a mystery to them.
