Rapid MCV increase

For the last 10 years or so, my MCV has been between 91-93. Then last month, it went to 100.5. This despite the fact that i was getting biweekly b-12 and b-complex injections. Has anyone else seen a rapid rise in their MCV?

Has your thyroid been tested?

How are your folate levels?

thanks Nackapan!

I've had diagnosed Hashimotos for over 20 years and have been on Levothyroxine for over 10 years. So while my thyroid isn't great, it also hasn't changed recently.

My TSH was 1.12,

my free T3 was 3 and

my reverse T3 was 20, so while in range, the recent summit I watched suggests it isn't optimized.

I did not test my folate levels, but I had a folate injection at the same time as the b12

It may indicate you need b12 injections weekly. When MCV is high its indicates b12 defiency. I need three injections every week to keep my b12 symptoms OK. Been on b12 injections since 2018…

Thank you Peder1962. I'm just surprised that I went from 93 to 100 in the space of a month while getting the injections. I've gone months in the past without an injection and my MCV never moves.

I have been self injecting weekly ( With prescription) and my MCV is around 100- ish each time I have labs done the last few years. I had my Dr up my prescription to 2x weekly, but the 2nd shot is at my option depending on how I feel. I have recently lost my health insurance that was tied to my job (I'm in the US) and am glad I have some back up vials stashed!
