Help needed please

I'm in the middle of getting my B12 NHS prescription sorted .During which time the G.p has 'allowed ' my B12 injections.

Although repeat prescription presently removed from my notes .

The help I need is for my daughter .

Hers were stopped completely??

Was having 10 weekly .

Well within 'their ' inadequate guidelines ' so why advice from secondary care needed a mystery .

A nurse again querying the need taken to G.p . ??looking to lighten her workload ??

She recieved a telephone call from a nurse ' out of the blue ' saying her next B12 injection appointment has been cancelled .

Told advice being sought from gastro.

That was 10 weeks ago .

She's in the process of writing a letter.

Wants evidence to quote .

I've given her alot as you can imagine.

However i can not find the rules about

Stopping a prescription.

I know it should be discussed with the patient.

With a doctor . Not nurse.

Reasons given .

Where is this written down?

My mind a bit scrambled as lots do do for my 95 year old mother too at the moment.

Any help with links greatly appreciated .

My vision csnt take more hunting .

Thanks 😊

She may think its urgent but it isn't.

Very patronising.

A prescription being stopped you depend on is urgent .

Good morning Nackapan. So sorry you have all this stress yet again. Why not contact Tracy Witty and ask her to intervene and try help you and your family ? She’s such a nice lady and you really don’t need all this stress and having to deal with it time after time will eventually take it’s toll on your health.

From a practical point all I can do is direct you to an AI system who will give you great advice if it’s something you feel able to continue to cope with yourself. I use this a lot now it’s far superior to any gp or consultant I’ve ever used.. It’s called ChatGPT. Look on your App Store for it,do a search, then download the app. You’ll need to register for the free version which is exactly what I did then you can just type in your question and you’ll be gobsmacked by how user friendly it is.. it will give you information you can download to use in your battles with gps,it trawls the internet for you then gives you sources and any other relevant info that you need to deal with these morons. It’s a system we will all need to learn to use more than ever because as you know we can’t get to see a GP when we need them and because we are getting older our eyesight does not encourage us to trawl through the Internet endlessly looking for info ourselves.

I hope this will be of some help and comfort to you,I’m having great success using it it’ll even give you names and contact details of local specialists in your areas it’s been a great help to me with my recent private Gastro appointment in London and I’m finally getting the help I need it gave me a full list of questions to ask,a timeline for treatments I needed to discuss with Gastro and directions to steer him into so I made sure everything was covered and he was treating me correctly. Right now I’m being treated for parasites because of my cat rescue work over the years, something I hadn’t even considered was a big factor in my gut problems, it’s working beautifully I’m on a really intensive course , I’m also on a product called lepicol plus, it’s a combination of digestive enzymes, inulin, and 5 strains of probiotic live bacteria to help my digestive tract,it’s cheap to buy on Amazon. It’s working wonders for me in just a week. I’ll do this for 4 weeks then do a follow up to treat the Sibo, the AI bot told me to treat the parasites first then the methane Sibo. The Gastro agreed.

Have a wee nosy on the site and see what you think it gave me the best ever info and sources on dealing with gps with a lack of knowledge on b12 and p.a so I’m prepared should I need it but I won’t be going near them again it’s not worth the stress to me and I don’t like the confrontation.

Best of luck Nackapan xx

Thank you .Will have a look . Seems amazing .

Doctors may use it !

My daughter has to stay 'in the system ' complex medical nees .

I choose to open G.ps minds whenever possible.

Keep it on surgery's agendas for meetings

I'm at the surgery alot for my mum so no hassle really

.I csnt stand injustice that does me far more harm thsn any stress from confrontations.

Actually rarely needed. 'Just ' persistence

Wd all deal with things in different ways which I respect.

My daughter wants facts to write hence thd post.

Glad you have found something that helps you.

I also have alot if dealings with cats too.

Rescues are usually very good at vaccinations snd parasite control treatments.

Toxoplasmosis can be s risk if gloves aren't worn of dealing with litter boxes if one has immune system compromised .

Infections are usually from restaurants poor hygiene or contaminated food rather than cats .

Take care .

I expect it not a legality .A doctor csn stop a prescription.

However must be good practice to Discuss or give reasons .

Or a proper review meanwhile still getting your b12 .

I just thought I'd read it in the past .

Medications can't be stopped without informing thd patient .

A nurse seems to tell people or refuse / cancel z B12 injection.

I'm assuming on a G.ps authority ??

Se nurses refusing on the spot witha pdf in place are not performing their duty of care though?

Fine lines .

No social skills ley alone care !

It's the way it's done that causes offence and there is definitely a stigma related to b12 and frequency of injections. They simply have no idea. The following is an interesting read and clarifies how a doctor can stop a prescription

Prescribing in general practice guidelines 2018 bma.org.uk/media/1563/bma-p...

"GPs are responsible for all prescribing decisions they make and for any consequent monitoring that is needed as a result of the prescription given."

I've looked at the bma prescribing guidelines that Tanitha quotes.

It also states at one point "The prescriber must assess each patient individually when taking the decision to change a patient’s medication. Any changes must be made in the patient’s best interests and must be fully explained to the patient."

Are you quoting the British Society for Haematology guidelines in your daughter's letter? That stresses the point that the clinical picture is what matters most, not test results.

I hope you get this sorted soon!

Hi,

I know you've seen these links before Nackapan but just leaving them here in case they help others reading this thread.

I'm thinking that stopping a prescription and therefore leaving someone without their medication might be covered by the need for patient to give informed consent to major changes in treatment.

Patient Association is a UK charity and their helpline is 0800 345 7115 (weekdays).

They have a good article that explains informed consent and shared decision making.

patients-association.org.uk...

They also have a useful article for those thinking about taking legal action.

patients-association.org.uk...

Other useful info in threads below for those who are struggling to get adequate treatment for B12 deficiency in UK.
