Best size needle for muscle jabs, please.

Been given some 25g X5/8, but I use 27g X3/4, will they be long enough?Or am I being nit picky??

Most people use a 1 inch long needle for I. M. injections . . But if you are really slim , I suppose 3/4 does the m job .But 5/8 seems rather short for I.M. and is only 1/8 longer than 1/2 “ which is used for Sub-cutaneous!

There really isn’t much difference between them. As b12 can be injected into a muscle or subcutaneously I would go ahead and use them.

As Wedgewood explains unless you’re very slim the 3/4 inch will likely be deep subcut anyway as will the 5/8 so inject into a muscle as you already are as it will be just as effective.

Picky picky picky! As Wedgewood says, a bit longer for IM would be usual, but those would be fine for sub-cutaneous. Depending, they might just be OK for I.M. too.

I use 27g as it’s the longest fine gauge needle that I assumed would just about reach the thigh muscle.

I use a 30 guage 1/2" long needle to inject into the muscle on my thigh with no problems. I m male so have less fat on my thigh. I like the 30 gauge needles because they are easier to insert and almost painless while giving less scarring.

Personally, I don’t see the need for differentiating between SC and IM, I did once. For quite some time now I use an insulin fixed half inch 29G needle and fill straight into it from the ampoules. I then jab straight in (right angle to the flesh), rotating round arms and thighs EOD. I could do same into stomach by pinching the flesh but choose not to. Works great for me.
