Letters to GP templates and NICE guidelines

Hi

Can someone tell me where to find the template letters to the GP?

Also the NICE guidelines re the frequency of jabs, and Doctors wanting to do a repeat blood test to see if you still need the jabs? Surely your levels will be up BECAUSE you've had them?

Thank you,

Hi,

There are letter templates on B12info.com website. See link below.

Some links I post may have details that could be upsetting to read.

"Doctors wanting to do a repeat blood test to see if you still need the jabs"

PAS article - Testing B12 During Treatment

pernicious-anaemia-society....

Has useful quotes from UK B12 documents.

PAS also have a help sheet "Help Sheet – re-testing of B12 during treatment".

You would need to be a PAS member to access the help sheet.

PAS membership is separate to membership of this forum.

If you're a PAS member, might be worth ringing their Member Support helpline.

PAS have support groups in UK. Can be useful places to swap information. I think most meet online. I think you are allowed to attend some meetings without being a PAS member but check with PAS or support group co-ordinators.

Scroll down page in link below to find when next meetings are.

"NICE guidelines re the frequency of jabs"

Search for this document online "NICE CKS Anaemia - B12 and Folate deficiency" and look in Management section.

Search for "BNF hydroxocobalamin" and look in Indications and Doses section.

BNF stands for British National Formulary.

See new NICE B12 deficiency guideline (published March 2024)

I have some concerns over the new guideline....to my mind there is too much emphasis on using oral B12.

If time, search for BSH Cobalamin and Folate guidelines published 2014.

Have you managed to find the local B12 deficiency guidelines used by your ICB (Integrated Care Board) In England (Health Board in Wales/Scotland)?

GP will probably refer to those and they can differ from what NICE says.

If you can't find them online, best bet is probably to submit a FOI (Freedom of Information) request to your ICB or Health Board asking which B12 deficiency guidelines they are using and for a link to or copy of them. Try to get exact title of document.

Thread about Patient Safety, has useful links for those struggling to get adequate treatment.
