Intrinsic Factor levels

I have recently had the result of an Intrinsic Factor test.

The normal range is listed as between 0 - 6 u/mL Mine was 480 u/mL

Is anyone able to advise the relevance of this please as it appears quite extreme.

Thanks

Congratulations - you have a very definitive Pernicious Anaemia test result. I say congratulations mainly because that test can be very frustrating to a lot of us and having a positive result should help you receive effective treatment from your doctor.

This means your body is actively getting rid of its own Intrinsic Factor which is necessary to convert B12 from food into an active and useable form.

I’m sure one of the lovely mods will be along soon with some links and advice.

Hi and welcome to the forum,

Have you considered joining PAS (Pernicious Anaemia Society)?

It's based in Wales, UK but is open to people worldwide.

PAS membership is separate to forum membership.
