B12 deficiency and UTI

I've had non stop uti's for some time and extremely limited in antibiotics. I read that Pernicious Anaemia could possibly be a probable hindrance to clearing up infection. Is this possibly the case? I'm desperate now.

I cannot believe that to be true . There is no evidence for that . Where on earth did you see that information? Please carry on injecting . You will get better from your illness more quickly . You will feel anxiety about everything if you miss your B12 injections . Best wishes for a speedy recovery TexasDixie .

hi, it can cause cystitis symptoms but usually without infection. It’s something I am currently going through, just over a month of eod. I have painful bladder and urge to wee. But no pain when weeing, no burning and they can’t detect any infection.

Yes I'm the same, have rarely had an infection, but lots of painful episodes and urine retention over many years.

When you have B12 deficiency, you can be more prone to infections and also slow to heal. When you have fully benefitted from the frequency of B12 treatment that is right for you, this should become a thing of the past. It might take a while to get to that point though.

Some antibiotics are known to deplete B12.

If I've read your post correctly, and just to set wedgewood 's mind at rest, you are blaming Pernicious Anaemia (and not the B12 injections), aren't you ?

My issue is the low b12 causing cystitis like symptoms.

Sorry you're suffering. I was just like that before I discovered b12 deficiency. Aside from a long term diagnosis of M.E. & those symptoms, a feeling of wa ting to wee too frequently, bladder pain, soreness & feeling faint were the symptoms test started my b12 journey. They kept finding blood varying from + to +++, and sometimes leukocytes & other things, but never seemed to point to infection.Ferritin was very low at 11 & with private testing b12 functional defic discovered. Those symptoms all improved, so am sure it was all.linked. I haven't had dipstick tests since so asdumimg the blood issue was rectified.

I did used to get a feeling of it back after each monthly injection but soon resolved. I assumed it was something I temporarily reacted to,but on reading about reversing maybe it was just that, just the same as pins & needles would return each time, more of a healing symptom.

I was moved to tablets, health deteriorated, nasty neurological symptoms returned but not waterworks issues this time. Now 2 months after loading dose bladder area feels raw & slight feeling to pass water more,so can only assume I'm mending & it's sorting a few infections that may have been lurking, out? Will ask for a urine test next time to check.

Take care & Hooe u soon see improvement

I recently suffered cystitis for the first time in my 70 years. It started a few weeks after surgery for prolapse, which may have had some bearing on the situation. The cystitis was coming and going over a period of about two weeks, and I occasionally had blood in my pee.

In the UK doctors are reluctant to prescribe antibiotics for cystitis so I eventually bought super strength cranberry tablets (750mg extract), taking two a day. The cystitis cleared up within a day or two and it's been over a month now that I've been okay.

I didn't buy the cranberry tablets immediately I had symptoms as the literature says that cranberries prevent cystitis but don't help once an infection is underway. I'm glad to say they cleared up the infection for me. Give them a try and good luck.
