An update…..and pins & needles

Hi everyone,

For all who know me through my infrequent posts on this site over the years I thought I’d share the news that I have received recently a diagnosis of thyroid cancer. Hopefully a fully treatable kind but not entirely sure at present. As awful as it sounds it is in disguise a relief to have a diagnosis but sadly just like PA knowledge in this area of oncology isn’t very high and currently falling through the net regarding treatment.

I once again wanted to say here that pins & needles should not always be considered b12 deficiency alone. B12 needs its co-factors to work. But there are other explanations for it anything from slipping discs or like me the added problem of vitamin d, phosphorus and calcium issues. A warning about phosphorus and calcium though: I need calcium because of severe pins and needles but to take too much can be risky to the heart, kidneys etc. It’s a tricky area of medicine and like PA needs knowledge healthcare opinions. Sadly I haven’t met any yet but wanted to share that news as well.

Dear RoseFlowerDew,

I am saddened to learn of your news. I do hope that as a community, we can support you through this. Respect your need for the times when you do not or cannot engage or simply do not want to.

I know that Thyroid U.K. is supportive and many will have more knowledge than us.

Sending my very best wishes.

I’m also saddened by your thyroid cancer diagnosis. My prayers are sent your way. I have a friend who also had thyroid cancer. The cancerous part of her thyroid was removed and she currently has continuous testing done for the remainder of her thyroid. She is currently healthy and well and in a good place. I sincerely wish you the same.🙏

Dear RoseFlowerDew,

I'm so sorry to hear your news.

I know you feel you haven't been receiving optimum care so far, but things have moved forward so much with treatments even in the last few years, so the options are out there.

Take care, and wishing you all the very best ! Xx

Wishing you well, RoseFlowerDew.

You are so right - all remaining symptoms should continue to be investigated, even while being treated for B12 deficiency, in order to rule out other possibilities or accompanying conditions. I think for me, given the symptoms I first presented with, ruling out bowel cancer initially was a relief.

I hope that you can find a knowledgeable medical professional who can help you with the treatment you need to get through this. Perhaps others here or on Thyroid UK will know of someone and can PM you ?

Luck and love.
