Had First Injection! Update with Thanks

Saw my new doc and delighted by her more progressive view. She gave me an injection on the spot to see how it would make me feel. I expected angels in the architecture then recalled reading here that first injections are not always quite that dramatic. It felt much like when I take one tablet of the 2000mg Methylcobalamin and Adenosylcobalamin sublingually. Sort of stable, able to function but not as energetically as hoped.

New doc offered to order any tests she can do and to send me to another hematologist for those she can't. Feeling very relieved, fortunate, and so very grateful I found you all.

That's such ggod news. A GP who is hoping to be able to help you is better than trying to find an expert. Sounds like a doctor who is looking at you and working with you !

Pamela it’s great you have a good doctor. One injection is highly unlikely to make the kind of difference to your health you’d like to see. Many of us take matters into our own hands and SI . There's plenty of support on here. After loading doses EOD for two weeks and three monthly thereafter , my symptoms were not that much better so I took the decision to SI. Thank goodness I did. It’s taken me two years to see a substantial improvement , others make be quicker or longer even. But I feel so much better. Good luck

I don't want to appear as pedantic, but surely you mean 2000µg? 2000mg is two grams. B12 is non-toxic, but that's an awfully big amount to swallow.

Not pedantic tomdickharry. You're right - it's 2000mcgs. Thanks for that catch!

Sounds like your new doc is 'a keeper'! Someone who treats the individual.

Well done.

Very astute again, Flipper. That's exactly the difference. She's very popular in our little college town and her reputation is not exaggerated.

Kalamazoo is very lucky to have her. Look after her as she looks after you. 👍

You are a wise woman Flipper. Will do!

Thank you. But oops! Wisdom, maybe, but gender? Er, didn't I tell you I've got a y chromosome? Easy mistake, and you're forgiven.

You know, I felt an inkling of that as I posted. Apologies for my presumption. Flipper!

Not a problem at all; it made me smile. The sun's shining here, but it's raining too. Nothing's ever what it seems...😀

That can be magical depending on the backdrop. My Jungian friends say it's a symbol of the union of masculine and feminine, thinking and feeling, no lie!

Great you have an understanding Doctor. I hope they know that once you start injections it will affect further B12 blood tests. You should see and feel basic improvement after loading doses, back to functioning ok after 6 months, with quite a few downs and ups.

I'm a year in, 9 months of SI, still get too weary, still feel bits of me are completely rebuilding themselves. I do have a life back.

Take it gently.

Thanks Oneash. What accounts for the ups and downs?

First your blood starts carrying oxygen to parts it hasn't reached for a while, then your nerve sheaths mend, so nerves come back to life and ache, and your DNA starts functioning properly, so bits of you that have been perniciously failing, rebuild. So you have days of feeling better and days you just want to sleep again whilst you reboot. I had a period when I felt my liver had a good old clear out. I got a bad chest several times, again feeling like every branch in my lungs was being renewed. Mood and memory can be affected too.

I've gone from not getting out of bed, to back at work, evenings out and a trip abroad. I can't drink alcohol much, and 3-4 slow miles is my max, when I used to walk 8 regularly. But I'm hoping to improve that in the next year.

Do take folic acid supplements, as it works hand in hand with B12, and despite eating my broccoli, I notice the difference if I forget. Vitamin D, sunshine, potassium, magnesium, a nutrient filled diet for rebuilding is important. Go gently with exercise and be very kind to yourself. All the best with your recovery.

You write very vividly, Oneash, made me reach for my folic acid and magnesium immediately! Methinks you have an exquisitely sensitive perception of body. Thanks for reminding me what's possible.

Magnesium lotion or Epsom salts in the bath can be better than pills- they bung me up! Nuts have lots of the other Bs, magnesium, and good fats. Keep inflammatory things low, especially sugar. I don't know if I have that refined a sense of body. My body has been pretty unrefined about it when I've been crap! I ended up on antibiotics in the winter. I've just learnt about nutrition along the way. Also we aren't just us, we are a walking vessel for a planet of microorganisms.

Another excellent reminder, Oneash. Few things feel better than a magnesium bath! You got me on sugar, especially under stress. I reach for a sugared Coke at the first sign of trouble.

If I feel nuts, I eat nuts! It's all do as I say and not as I do. I've been biscuit munching again....🤣
