saw neurology consultant few days ago re the MRI scan I had after a stroke last year. And when I mentioned how my memory banks were badly affected and also said I was getting 2 monthly injections of B12 he told me that B12 would improve my memory losses so hopefully I can get my Doc to agree to more injections per month.

Neurology Doc advice
Sorry to read Beadbuddy that you had a stroke. It is great news that a neurologist listened to you, knew the therapeutic benefits of B12 and that you may have more frequent injections.
I do hope that the neurologist you saw does send you a copy of a letter to your GP.
Take care, lovely.
So sorry you had to go through that Beadbuddy. I didn't have a stroke but I suffer with the memory also. It's very hard to cope when it happens. It's not noticable to other people. Probably because when it does happen it's not even a whole 2 seconds BUT it scares me. I'm sooo afraid of it happening again I'm stressed out about it and the what if's start to pop up. The advice your doc gave saying the shots help with memory is also what my neurologist said but to be sure she also had me take a brain scan with contrast. It came back good. She said it was a teeny bit of matter that was expected of someone with high blood pressure but she didn't think it was out of the norm and says nothing to worry about. She also suggested and increase in my injections. Still when the memory thing happens it scares the heck out of me. Wishing you a very good recovery. Best!
I was always clnsidered articulate and able to communicate my wishes and feelings but in August i felt like a 2 yr old child must feel when they havent the vocabulary to explain what they need or how they feel
Ive never heard of Homocystene testing. So id have to ask my surgery. I take 2 OTC meds. B3 AND A Multivitamin plus sublingual B 12 and the vitamins seem to keep my iron levels up
If you are also taking an antidepressant that can also cause memory problems. For me the worse is amitriptyline and as its also the best painkiller for me I have to limit how much I use.
I don't take an antidepressant. Doctor tried to prescribe but I told her I wouldn't call it depression, it's more anxiety. It's very strange, I can be calmly doing something or even just sitting and my heart starts racing like a bear is chasing me. Sounds strange but when it happens it puts my body and brain in fight or flight mode when there is no apparent danger. I said all that to say, in my case it wouldn't be culprit in memory issue. Thank you for sharing though. Best
Did they check your homocysteine? You may need folate, B6 and omega 3 as well as the regular B12 to lower it if still high (which is a stroke risk). Best wishes
Agree ! I do wish Homocysteine was a routine test. I was tested when I lived in Crete - result was in double figures. Supplementing as you suggest brought it down to 5/6 - which is acceptable I have read. 🌻
Absolutely, and that is exactly where mine is (or was when tested 18 months ago - took that long to get the result from the hospital ). Optimal is suggested as your age divided by 10, give or take! Best wishes
