Hi Jo5454,

Sorry to learn of your friend. Unfortunately, I do not know how far into your friend’s journey they are. It could be part of the healing process.

Yes, magnesium is superbly important for the brain. I recommend coconut water as a source of potassium (if no intolerance no allergies and does not like the stuff). It is a fluid and does not need to be broken down. This is a previous post as to how all the other B’s (minus folate because it is in another metabolic cycle) work at cell level. Do not get hung up on it, it is colour coded. Just count the greens, blues, pinks. So, many of us take either a B complex or multivitamin/mineral. Although, dietetics is highly individual.

I do hope your friend gets some relief soon.

Best wishes.

Many thanks…my friend is a few years down the line, I will pass that on. I’ll bear it in mind too thanks, am due to have another loading dose & going back on injections after a spell of trying tablets. I always tend to have slightly high magnesium when tested though,so am concerned about taking more? I may need a few injections before grasping the diagram, but will endeavour to try! Thank you

Best of luck with injections.

Unfortunately, your friend will have totally different magnesium and potassium requirements than you. It is sadly not a one size fits all.

No, if only that easy…it’s challenging enough finding the right fit for one isn’t it, let alone all…but we keep trying😀Thanks for your help…

There really are not many reasons for such. . .. . If it were me and I ended up on a drip one day I'd be telling your friend to drink more water. . . . . We near all are dehydrated and dont know it .. . . .throwing B12 into the equation requires more water . . . . . Drink a good glass when ye get up before ye even go to the loo . . Drink another before you eat. . . .and eat dont be running around all morn on nothing. . . every time you think of consuming anything drink a decent sized glass of water . . . . . Coffee/tea etc is of little use especially if already short on fluids . . . . . .

Oh dear, did you go on a drip after having dehydration caused by the b12? That’s a help thank you. He drinks well, but it’s useful to know and bear in mind. I work hard at drinking, about 11 or 12 cups a day, but it’s always difficult to know just how much is enough! Only tend to drink water, as dairy free milks don’t make good tea! Thanks very much.i

B12 could well have had an input. . . . . . I have a neighbour down the road who has been hpspitalisd several times for same . . . . . Drip and out tomorrow. . . .He is 86 having 20 years on me. . . . . I had syptoms of a heart attach and GP sent me post haste to hospital . . . . . . After a couple of hours a few different examinations took place I got told Mr +++ we cant see anything untoward wrong with you but we are just going to put you on a drip for a couple pf hours . . . . . . I kinda grabbed him back and asked if there is nothing wrong with me why do I need a drip having never had such on my life. . . . . . He replied . . . . Mr ++++ you are dehydrated. . . . Quite common really with your symptoms . . . . . I checked it out when I came home and yes . . . . The doctor is correct. . . . . Really anything weird happens I drink more. . . . . It is really dificult to drink near enough as we get older and just look at all the elderly . . . . . endless cups of tea . . . . . It really does not suffice to do. . . . . . . . . .

Thankyou, must’ve been awful, but at least it sounds like you’re on top of it and now helping others too on here.

Yes, my Dad was told he was badly dehydrated after being hospitalised after a dizzy spell caused a fall & had 2 days on a drip. Then, his blood pressure medication had to be halved as Bp improved! Also know a friend of a friend whose legs seemed to stop working, caused temporary paralysis & that was due to dehydration too, and reversed.

Yes, then there’s the old adage of some folk holding back on the drinking to save trips to the loo! Doesn’t bear thinking about!

Thanks for your help…or praps that should be Cheers, with a cups of water in hands😀

It is difficult but you can also drink too much. I ended up in hospital on a drip after drinking way too much water over about a week, which flushed out my sodium.

I got over hydrated when in Quito Ecuador at 2,850 meters above sea level. Everyone drinks water and some believe we should listen to them.

I flushed out my sodium when following advice of a doctor and found out when my sodium was checked.

Until 1965 medical advice was to not drink water before during or after exercise. That advice was given with the same confidence as advice now. The invention of Gator Aid changed that advice.

You're so right. I get headaches when I'm dehydrated. I also find it hard to sleep when I haven't had enough to drink during the day.

Drink like a fish from first thing until late afternoon like 6 or 7pm. . . . . Dont be drinking coffee etc after 4pm either or you'll spoil your good work. . . . . . .
