Doubtful. Why would it be a good to switch off gastrin production?

Thank you Technoid, I thought it would be if you have Atrophic gastritis🤔

Rexz has a more informed answer below :)

Hi Helliborous Although, highly acidic state of PH around 2 - 3 turns off the G-cells from producing Gastrin, Betaine HCL does not. I'm not sure of the reason other than taking Betaine HCL does not quite get you to that highly acidic state. It would be hard to compete with natural hydrochloric acid I presume.

I have no stomach acid as I've had it measured during my cancer screening Endoscopies. My stomach PH was 6 or achlorhydria. I've been taking high dose of Betaine HCL, as prescribed by my doctor for three years now and although it has solved a lot of my digestion issues, my Gastrin remains well over 1000 or hypogastremia. I've researched myself and asked my doctors if there is any way to turn off the G-Cells from producing Gastrin and so far as I've been able to find out the answer is no.

Constant high levels of Gastrin does make you more susceptible to Neuroendocrine hyperplasia and tumors (NETs).

Hope this helps some, Rexz

How much betaine HCL are you taking at your meals, just out of curioucity? And when during the meal do you take the capsule(s).

I take both betaine HCL and Pancreatic enzymes at every meal, as I have a hard time digesting my food, and in particular proteins and fats...

About 5 minutes before each meal I take...

One capsule of Betaine HCI made by integrative Therapeutics. This capsule contains 1.3g betaine HCI and 200mg Pepsin.

Two capsules of PANPLEX 2-PHASE made by Integrative Therapeutics. These capsules again contain 320 mg of Betaine HCI; 220mg Pepsin; 200mg L-Gluamic acid; 126mg of pancreatic enzymes (pancreatin, lipase, amylase, protease); and my favorite, 130 mg of Ox Bile! Yep thank God for Oxes!

So between all three capsules the total Betaine HCI I take before each meal is 1.94g of Betaine HCI.

These have worked well for me. Before we figured I had achlorhydria I lost 90 lbs. I'd eat a meal and like clockwork about 30 to 45 minutes after I would just vomit it all back up. I could tell I had no gastric juice as the vomit was rather dry.

Although, Betaine HCI won't turn off G-Cells it is very acidic. I learned this when I took my capsules after meals a few times. You'll have acid or rather Betaine HCI reflux...not good. This seems to be the same reason low stomach acid can cause acid reflux.

So make sure you take these capsules BEFORE your meals and not after.

Thank you so much for that elaboration. I can tell that you must have had to deal with quite alt...I have considered the oxbile because aiding the gallbladder and some SIBO, but also have A history of cancer (breast cancer), so I try to strongly reduce my intake of mammel-related foods (due to IGF-1 growth hormones).

You seem to have much harder digestive issues than me, and fantastic that it works for you with this thourough regimen, so now I will sit down to learn more about the products you mention.

I take 650 mg of betaine HCL a meal plus a varying amount of Pancreatic enzymes, non prescription from Amazon (live in Denmark, so not such an abundance of choises, as in other countries). Thank you for sharing🙏

Yeah, I am one of the lucky few that had PA associated gastric cancer. Fortunately they found it early enough that it was excised completely. Now I have endoscopy cancer screening every 6 to 8 months. I too have significantly reduced/eliminated inflammatory foods such as gluten, dairy, sugar, salt, I do have some meat protein now. It usually a couple times a week and is maybe half a palm size like 3 ounces. I do think that helps also

Btw... The capsules I've shown, although prescribed by my doctor, are available OTC on Amazon.

Thank you Rexz, that's very informative. I will certainly try the betaine and pepsin though as my digestion is awful. I do have Neuroendocrine hyperplasia and am concerned about NETs. Evertime I eat I worry about the Gastrin and I always seem to be hungry.
