I am really struggling with injections no matter where, how and with help or not. Seriously interested in alternatives that could help. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10...
Found some research from the 1960s re... - Pernicious Anaemi...
Found some research from the 1960s re alternative to injecting B12... Warning! Probably too much info before breakfast - Suppositories!
It’s well past breakfast time ( in my book ! ) Suppositories would be in too low a position to be beneficial -Well past the ileum where about 1% of B12 can be absorbed without the Intrinsic factor .
Have you seen injectneedlefree.com
Worth looking at . Apparently there are other similar methods of injecting without needles .
Scientist, not medic.
Well done in finding this. There's more interesting stuff out there than you can shake a big stick at! This comes from the days when we had radioisotopically labelled B12, so it was easy to measure what had been absorbed. Much in the way we did the Schilling Tests.
The absorption from a huge dose looks like a case of passive absorption across a concentration gradient across a membrane. The bowel is great at absorbing liquid, otherwise the result would be permanent diarrhoea. [We can get that easily enough!]
Using Co57 would not be without some risk, so perhaps it would be best to skim over that bit of the experiment, but it clearly worked. I'm assuming that informed consent was obtained from the human subjects, whereas rabbits [no, let's not go there. It's a long time ago].
I seem to recall that some nations are rather keener about use of suppositories than others, but common decency means I shouldn't identify them...
This [in my opinion] demonstrates that mega doses of B12 can result in some absorption, but it's never going to be as efficient as injection.
As a teenager in the late 70s, I was watching " Digame ! " the BBCs learn Spanish series. During one episode " At the Chemist Shop ", a man walked in rubbing his throat and speaking in a hoarse voice.
I was both horrified and amused when the pharmacist offered him " pastilles " or " supositorios " !!😳🤣
