Anyway the answer is YES. We often call it the 'roller coaster period' when on injections. When untreated it's also very normal - depending on how well you slept, other stressors, etc, some days can be much worse than others. I muddled along for years crashing & recovering after enough rest. The amount of sick leave i had to take at work was something else.
I've only had to call in sick once the last 3 years and that was thanks to covid. I can now work, be social, go shopping, clean up the house, and even last few weeks go for a workout - all in the same day - without crashing 😱 7 years ago 1 doctor's appointment would wipe me out for a whole week. I'd have to choose: empty the dishwasher, go to the doctor, or maybe take a shower - pick 1 and that's it for the rest of the week 😂
I’ve been SI ED since spring 22. I was worse at first, got a lot better, then got knocked back by covid, now starting to feel better again (think I’ve got the balance with folate better now) but the up and down ness of it confuses me. For example I’m on holiday. First 7 days felt almost like old me - amazing - woke up today with eight leg stiff and numb, back pain, dizzy, fatigue. Nothing has changed. WHY????? 😭. Does it get more steady than this???
The seeming randomness of it can be very distressing i know!
Yes it does get better, i promise!
B12 healing is just so incredibly slow It took me a good ... maybe 4 years not to get knocked around like that, but i was pretty bad when i started.
If you're on holiday you might also check that your b12 & folate haven't inadvertently been exposed to heat/light.
Sometime high outside temps / increased activity can increase our need for one or both. I used to crash all the time when i did too much. It did get much better though, so don't get overly discouraged x
Thank you so much 🥰. I don’t know anyone like me so it’s so reassuring to hear that it took time to get stable. I was thinking 18 months is loads of time LOL but it’s taken a while even within that to get it right. I have glimpses of normal me and then bam 💥 it’s gone again and it is upsetting. I think my B12 is okay out here as I’ve been so careful but it is very hot and maybe I’ve been walking on the beach too much (because I can - hooray - was disabled last year from spectacular B12 crash post surgery anaethetics / nitrofuratoin). Thank you again. I love this group ❤️
OMG ‘sister from another mister’ - you too? I’d love to hear your story please. Yes beach walking is so hard!! An extra injection does help but I’ve only just got enough - doh! Lesson learned to carry a lot more! I was so pleased I got through security with no issues at all. Xx
Hello Mrs Tuft 3 weeks ago I was on holiday in temp around 30 degrees. Air con inside, cool water to swim in.
BUT despite drinking water and taking electrolytes, fir some reason last two days of holiday I got heat exhaustion symptoms and had to stay inside.
I can't be sure of the reasons but since menopause I've lost ability to tolerate heat/humidity. Plus I wasn't taking my vits and minerals as I didn't want to bother (😱 the shame).
Just throwing it out there in case any of it's relevant!
This is very helpful thank you. I am in surgical menopause too. I’m taking everything as normal and initially felt wonderful but the constant heat has made me feel a little relapsed . Gah 😩 xxx
I read that humidity is a particular trigger for heat exhaustion ( and maybe b12 issues??) I thought I was doing so well!Electrolytes are massively important to replace when you are drinking a lot in hot temperatures.
Dehydration can also build over a few days apparently.
Things you Google when stuck inside on holiday!
In my mind menopause stuffs everything and causes havoc. And I'm on hrt and generally very well replaced, but the heat thing...my body says No.
