Cooling vests for hot weather -tips or advice?

Hi everyone!

I'm looking into cooling vests for some summer activities this year, and I'm just wondering if anyone has experience or advice relating to getting a vest to help prevent Uthoff's symptoms. I live in a fairly humid climate that regularly gets up to 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit.

About 1 year ago I was diagnosed with PA, and looking back, there were warning signs of fatigue and nausea when I would get hot, over 5 years before I was diagnosed. I learned about Uthoff's on this forum and I'm actually a bit excited to use this knowledge so I don't suffer the hot weather like I was before. I'm relatively young and thought I just needed to 'toughen up' or something, as I grew up with out AC and used to pride myself on my ability to tolerate heat and humidity.

This is the first summer I'm embracing air conditioning and it's really improved my quality of life. So thank you all for those to educated me about Uthoff's and thank you to anyone sharing their experience with cooling clothes!!

Don't know if this will help but when I use to do lots of walking, I had a hydration bladder in the back of my rucksack with a tube for me to drink on the move.

In the summer I filled the bladder the night before and put it in my freezer. It defrosted as I walked and I could feel the coolness against my back and have chilled water to drink.

I used to suffer from the heat and thrive in the cold. That is gradually changing with my current self-treating supplementation. I also used to suffer greatly if I did not get enough Sun and that too is on the wane.

I too have embraced air conditioning.

I used swimming and hot showers to regulate my body temperature. Being careful to have enough calories and hydration.

I used a cooling vest, cooling bandana/headband and cooling wrist bands.

The above was mitigating the effects of B12/nutritional defency unrelated to dietary intake which could not be successfully treated by nutritional advice.

That's really cool that you're starting to notice an improvement in you body temp regulation!! Sounds like you've done lot's of hard work to help make sure you're as comfortable and as safe as possible.

It's crazy what a difference it makes when you have the information (about Uthoff's) to address what's going on in your health, right?

I like your point about having enough calories and hydration - that matters too. Thanks for your post!!

It is more than dialing in. It is self treating differently.

I have a better understanding rather than correct information.
