It was nice to see the poor old soul smile he looked rather stressed throughout the ceremony.

I hope you all enjoyed the coronation of King Charles 3rd
Hi Jillymo
Yes I watched and “rather you than me” was said so many times. I cannot imagine much worse than at 74 years old taking on world scrutiny and expectations of constantly giving. I felt for him and Camilla too. I just hope the weight of office is balanced with lightness too.
I watched too but couldn't help but wonder how much it will cost us the nation ? I thought Charles really looked his age and struggled through the ceremony. The only time he relaxed was when it was all over.
it will cost but Royal tourism is worth billions which boosts the economy. I remember when I lived and worked in london I was always amazed at the number of wealthy tourists who came to stare through the gates of Buckingham Palace. They were minted and some came annually!
Then there is the charity work particularly with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Again I have experienced the impact that this low key often out of the limelight support has in turning those who could have been lifelong takers of society into upstanding citizens who contribute a lot.
I don’t think the Royal family are perfect but there could be more communication of the beneficial impact of their activities on the work of charities . I think we will see a lot of change in the next 20 years because we need more people to give their time and commitment to helping others.
In a nutshell many charities need royal support and without charities there would be an even greater burden on the taxpayer - that’s assuming we had a Government that cared enough to spend money on social care and wellbeing.
I lived on the outskirts of London ( Greenford ) and can remember standing at the gates of the palace watching the changing of the guards. I thought some of the horses became restless during the parade and the one along the Mall going from side to side was disturbing to watch. I wouldn't fancy the job of having to shovel the horse muck up. Your so right with regard the charities and torism but the money spent makes you think it would have been better spent else where.
I thought the noise was probably one reason that several horses were obviously stressed. We do treat horses badly at times.
I thought the same thing, Jillymo! I kept thinking, smile, Charles! You'll automatically feel better if you do. 😊
So.....there have been 110 previous King Charles have there? lol
sorry, but couldn't resist.
I think it was quite a stressful looking event really. Charles is 74, Camilla didn't want to be Queen, William and Kate have their kids to keep an eye on, Andrew is staying at the back and Harry...well. What can anyone say about Harry other than he must not feel very proud of himself.
The royal family is now a lean machine. Edward and Sophie are there for reinforcement, but basically Charles and Camilla are 'props' for William and Kate to do most of the work through. Within our lifetimes, William and Kate will become King and Queen and then we'll pay another £100 million to 'Coronate' them too. Didn't we just have the jubilee a year ago? Queen's funeral? Now a coronation....
I think most people are 'Royaled Out'.
There is a play by Mike Bartlett called King Charles 3rd which I recommend reading. I saw it about 7 years ago in London - quite amusing. Let's hope the King lives up to a better legacy than that!!
I was amazed at how quickly the nation seemed to forget Diana. Charles has taken on a lot at his age and perhaps should have stepped down, he looked as if he was in need of a B12 shot.
I rather like both Kate and Wills but have to say I felt sorry for Harry. It must have been hard tp loose their mother at such a young age and have the nation watch as they were made to walk behind her coffin. For them to try and accept Camila as a stepmother must have very been difficult.
Anyway lets move on and try and be happy for them.
I think sadly Camilla was always there in the background and Diana had a rough ride from the start. I don't think Charles loved her - it was an arrangement. Thank goodness they let their kids find people they loved, for better or worse, than to go through a similar ordeal to 'keeping it in the family'.
"He looked as if he was in need of a B12 shot" 😂 Indeed.
Yes, I was the same age as Harry when I lost my father to cancer. Not quite the same situation but still, a trauma and a life changing event that stays with you. It's hard. And I don't think the boys accept Camilla as the grandmother to their children, but they do accept her as the partner to their Dad. All very complicated and stressful I think.
Harry is best to step away from the family and try to be happy with his wife. So it's now all about William and Kate being the new royals in a few years time, with their lovely kids supporting them no doubt. And the rest, as they say, will be history.
