Hello all, I was just wondering wife and I both have B12 def. We have had issues with back spasm-like pain shooting from our buttocks down our legs. I've read that nerve pain is one of the B12 Def symptoms. Does anyone have any information pertaining to this? What to do to stop it? I assume to stop it, we must be treated and totally healthy and we are doing all the pills, sublingual, etc. to help, but apparently the "knife" as we call it, stays with you until you are healed. We've noticed the "knife" seems to be better after we have injections from our Dr., but the doctor refuses to give us an injection more than once per month. Dr. also won't prescribe self-injections for us. Any response is appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like sciatica. Have you tried stretching exercises for your back.
Alot buy b12 to self inject 💉
Yes, we know it's not sciatica. Wife and I both started having it as soon as we became B12 def. When we get shots it seems to disappear within a day or so after a B12 injection, it's just that it keeps coming back until the next shot. Maybe it will linger until a year or so on treatment.
Some times sciatic issues can have a cause and a trigger. Lack of B12 is your cause but maybe your mattress is your trigger. My sister went through the same thing. Scans, tests, Dr. visits, TENS, pain shots etc... She could not walk for 4 months. As a last effort before surgery was scheduled to kill the nerve, she got a new Numbers Bed and the pain was gone in two days. Just a thought & I hope you both feel better soon.
Depending on how long you have been deficiant in B12 and what nerve damage you have substained B12 shots should help with recovery.
B vitamins (especially B1, B6, B9 and B12) are extremely important for nerve health. Deficiency has been linked with neuropathy and migraines and addition of a vitamin B complex has been shown to promote the regeneration and functional recovery of injured sciatic nerves.
Hi,
I hope you find a way to get rid of the pain you're experiencing.
Do you mind me asking which country you are in?
It would help me and other forum members to post relevant information.
I'm in the UK.
Treatment patterns for B12 deficiency vary between countries. Type of B12 used can also vary.
Two B12 books I found useful
"What You Need to Know About Pernicious Anaemia and B12 Deficiency" by Martyn Hooper
Martyn Hooper is the former chair of PAS (Pernicious Anaemia Society).
"Could it Be B12?: An Epidemic of Misdiagnoses" by Sally Pacholok and JJ. Stuart (US authors)
Very comprehensive with lots of case studies.
PAS (Pernicious Anaemia Society)
Based in Wales, UK. Has some overseas members.

There is a helpline number that PAS members can ring and an online contact form.
PAS membership is separate to membership of this forum.
There are some PAS support groups in UK and one in Chicago area, US.

Club B12 is a group of researchers and health professionals worldwide who are looking into B12. Maybe your doctors might find this website interesting.
There may be more info I can post depending on where you are living.
I'm not a health professional just a person who suffered for years from unrecognised and untreated B12 deficiency.
I had lower back pain and was diagnosed with performed syndrome, sent to PT and stretching. I bought a new mattress etc. That all helped a tiny bit. When I was finally diagnosed with PA some 2 years later and stated self injecting my GP, or PCP as we call GPS in the USA), gave me loading doses then once a month but not sufficient to get rid of my symptoms. I started SI in August 2022. I was free of excruciating back pain within 6 weeks. And it has not come back except when I recently had Covid. Several other symptoms came back too so I upped my dosage and that has returned me to health.
My advice is to what your body needs. Waiting for my OCP do do what I needed would have left me stuck with the pain.
