hydroxycobalamin and light exposure

Hello all,

I am careful to store my hydroxy ampoules in a dark, temperature controlled place. How critical is it that the serum is temporarily exposed to light while drawing it up and injecting? My husband helps me but he thinks I worry too much about what is a couple of minutes of exposure to light. (Often sun coming in windows). opinions?

Thank you.

I wouldn't know for sure, but I agree that a few seconds in the sun seems unlikely to make a difference. Most people are injecting within a few minutes of removing the ampoules from the container or pack.

I see it like taking ice cream out of the freezer. If you leave it on the side for 20 minutes, it will melt. But if you eat it straight, it'll melt in your mouth. Just a minute or two is perfect to melt it a little, right?

Obviously don't leave it in sunlight for 20 minutes. Otherwise, give yourself one less thing to worry about since we all need to avoid stress with this darned deficiency

👍😃

Thanks for the analogy and yes, ice cream does melt quite fast so I will try that with my husband. (Or start doing it alone in a dark room; at this point I have needed moral support). Maybe I don’t need it any more. (His help) He has a strong science background. I generally acquiescence to his opinion but am not comfortable with his dismissal of this issue.

It's fine for hours, just best not exposed for days.

😃 Sorry!

But at least you don't have to worry about them!

👍

You could always slip it into an armpit to warm up. It goes in easier if it is body temperature.

I agree. I remove an ampoule at the docs and hold it in a clenched fist whilst I’m waiting. One of the receptionists noticed what I was doing and asked me why? The staff all thought it was hilarious and it added to their already held perception that I’m a little eccentric. Is this a worried face? 🥴

I take hydroxo ampoule from the refrigerator and than put in my pocket for 5 minutes and inject. Dont worry, 20-30 minutes are not a problem.

Be happy !

I do not refrigerate my hydroxy. It says to store at room temperature on the box. (Pan Pharma)

So no need to use my armpit! Clever, though I think that is…not eccentric. We are all so resourceful. We have to be.

My Practice nurse keeps mine in the box in fridge. However when I go in its usually out of the fridge on the desk.
