It’s marvellous that you are standing up for your Mum . Goodness knows what would happen if you were not there for her . So a community nurse was trying to get her treatment changed from injections to tablets . That’s awful
so sorry to hear this again you must be furious and it’s so stressful for you,your poor mum what a way to treat our elderly it’s actually bullying isn’t it because they know fine well she’s unable to stand up for herself.disgraceful treatment my heart goes out to you..x
It is more stressful than I think for me as when telling her the outcome I told her the change of arrangement of the 'homehelp' the following day Wednesday.
She said I'd told her already and it was Tuesday tomorrow !!

As yet I havn't had to face my injections being stopped but pretty sure it will take place soon - I shall remember your words if and when it takes place.

Not only have you to fight and advocate for yourself B12 wise but also your mum too. You’re awesome and well done for keeping up the fight . It’s flaming hard sometimes. I so relate to your later post about saying too much when stressed or feeling gaslighted. I’m trying to learn to be more concise and not emotional when talking to medical peeps. Very hard when they don’t listen and treat you with respect. Luckily I currently see a GP who hasn’t got a massive ego
Furious, and yet still fair about low pay grade making a difference. You have once again averted a disaster - how many more times though ?
There are two things worth mentioning here: how well you have been doing lately (comparatively) and you finding a GP that you can talk to (in spite of the fact that she did phone your mumbefore contacting you).
You both deserve to get placed with a good local surgery where you have one dedicated "usual GP" to deal with as continuity is important as is family history.
A big ask these days, I know. Will cross my fingers for you and your mum .
Good if you can get on with the same surgery as your mum, especially since there is an approachable GP there (or at least for the time being !)
How is adhering to the previous catchment area going to work, given that 5,000 patients are now cast adrift ? Logistically does not seem likely. All the surgeries involved will be recruiting new GPs to cope with increased patient numbers - and you'd imagine that would take some time. Not to mention nurses and receptionists.
Have you had any advice from current practice manager ? I really thought this would be an automatic transfer.
It's a complete mess .Practice manger impossible to contact as receptionists just give a telephone number to ring .

My neighbours patents in their 90s applied to transfer to next gps closest to where they live.
My mums present surgery.
They were refused as out of catchment and offered a gp surgery much further way.
This made no sense as I knew historically 'IN catchment area'
Neighbour challenged on behalf of his parents ( Moved closer to him for care!)
They were then taken on ....as clearly when you put the postcode into the website the surgery applied for was first on the list .
Admins had to be shown this?
Again if no advocate elderly will be stressed and may end up with a surgery miles away They can't access. As not online either.
I've looked at the maps .( with difficulty ) mum been here since 1959. Same gp practice. Maps
Obviously done before alot of new roads made.
The gp surgeries are now in groups
The groups not in one local area .
Logistically surgeries in a group csn be 5-7 miles apart.
Seems like trying to get into a school you can walk to !
To me it would've made sense to allocate a gp surgery nearest in distance surely.
Then if person not happy to change it!
The admin is ludicrous 4 pages online . 1 page missing.

The centre don't know the area or can't make out the complicated catchment maps to help.
I applied to a surgery I know exists and physically went to look .
That wasn't even on their list ???

Simply chosen as I can get there and they have nurses who take bloods . A rarity .
Nothing back yet.
B12 booked at present surgery open until the 30th next week.
I've now heard.
They will not honour that appointment if registered somewhere else by then ! . So ready fot that if I arrive and its not been cancelled ! But refused even though doctors employed to the 30th and booked.
Will see as booked for 25th with known Gp I want to discuss last bloods with as well as IM b12
Last bloods done at a 'hub' in the bus station .
Good if you are on a bus route to take you there !
Otherwise main huge hospital.
Half a days trip for those with disabilities.
Also hefty car park fees and taking spaces needed for more urgent appointments!
Contracts seem to run for 2 years .
Seemingly provision not thought through if not renewed.
Similar to NHS bid lost for my last NHS job.
Then new provider winning failed.
Schools complaining of needs of children entering school not met amongst other things. Too many cuts . Very short sighted .
Mayhem. and 2 yesrs later another takeover.
The loss of skilled workers ,service and huge money losses .
All by taking a bid that was cheaper but didn't know the job.

Potential huge changes 2 yearly plain stupid .

Alot of experienced Gps and nurses going for early retirement as burnt out by another round of changes and workplaces just too far away from home.

I wonder what that vacant building will be used for .
What a shame that the final visit to your surgery will involve gearing up in case of yet another fight for you !
What a mess ! Changing catchment areas, postcode lotteries, further travel required, agency staff, mobile phones, computers, remote access (or no access to decision-makers) : how useful is any of that for an elderly, confused or sick patient ?
They are the people that are going to fall through these huge cracks. Who is there to notice ?
I feel your pain Nackapan. I dodge a bullet every time I go for my 4 weekly injections. Nice nurse never questions. Yet if she’s not their other nurse says I need blood test and should I-only have jab every 12 weeks like her other patients have. I’ve told her doctor said 4 weeks but she doesn’t listen. I had her yesterday but when she did it I just left and didn’t rebook my injections like normal. Now I have to hope I get nice nurse for next 4 weeks one.
It’s such an unjust struggle for us all just to get on with our lives. Sending hugs x

Many years ago when I first discovered I had PA, I was given the required loading dose. I didn’t like the jabs one bit so asked the doc if there were any alternative. He replied that I could neglect to have the jabs and die. Now if my GP could tell me that so many years ago, why is it that GP’s and nurses seem to think that we can do without them now? It makes me feel bewildered, sad and angry all at the same time. I’m glad you look after your Mum Nackapan. I looked after and fought for my Mum till she passed two years ago. I used to worry about the dementia patients with no one to stick up for them. I don’t doubt that they were overlooked in many ways🥲
So sorry Nackapan to hear about all the hassle, as if you haven’t got enough to cope with! So pleased you got it sorted although you shouldn’t have been forced to do all that additional fighting, honestly what is the matter with them!! Sending hugs, keep well🥰
