So Confused . . . . .

I have been dealing with trying to get my B-12 levels up for about three years now. I also have adrenal fatigue and am so sensitive to drugs, supplements and even some foods. I have tried so many sublingual B-12 tablets and recently tried some injections. Within 10 minutes of the injection I can taste salt in my mouth and start burning in my whole body. I am getting tested again to see where my levels are at - but I am getting lower each time. 190 last time I was tested a few months back. The trouble is I am having some really upsetting symptoms - 24/7 dizziness, off balance and now these full body vibrations which are so frightening. They get worse each time I try a supplement and after the injection I now have the vibrations. I cannot take large amounts of B-12 with my adrenals - it seems to just create this storm of reaction. I never had a lot of these symptoms until I started to try supplements a few years back. I am in a constant confusion now - what to do or am I allergic to B-12. I am also low in Vitamin D and folate. Any thoughts of experiences would be appreciated!

My symptoms got worse before better.I finally collapsed then vertigo. For the first time medics / gp to help me.

A very first for me. ( vertigo attack)

No othef medical conditions to date.

I had severe reactions to the loading doses.

They were 'threatened ' to be stopped.

As for low folate this causes symptoms too.

Once you are having b12 .

Your level I woujd think high enough after your b12 Injection to start your folate treatment.

B12 then folate.

Also get your vit d level up .

I take k2 with vitamin D .not essential.

If its not prescribed. Gp shoukd know what you take .

Look up grassroots about vit D.

I started from a much lower b12 level and guessed that's why I 'reacted'so badly.

It's your nerves waking up .

Nervous system in my case in over drive.

Like getting rebooted.

For me the injections triggered migraines ( nevef had before)

And a host of other symptoms.

However I persevered.

Got walking agsin vision improved .

Ect

Leaden legs I couldnt seem move featured too. Rooted to the spot.

Vile feeling

A neurological effect.

Too many to go into.

I've no knowledge of adrenal fatigue but wouldn't be suprised if I'd had it .

Did you have a Intrinsic anti body test.

Anyhow I decided to continue with loagng b12 injections as nothing else found to treat and I coukd feel my body 'shutting down'

Very ill.

Its so difficult. But once prrscribed i went with it

B12 and Time my only healer .

This is what I did.

You know your medical history .

It's asking the right questions.

Getting referrals to rule out anything else going on.

A trial is how gps work.

Hope you find some answers and b12 helps you along with folate ect soon.

Adrenal fatigue is not considered to be a real medical condition:

Fatigue from B12 deficiency on the other hand is very real and can be extremely debilitating. Worse reactions on receiving B12 when deficient are not uncommon. In all probability you need more B12, injections rather than tablets, if injections give a stronger effect. In theory its possible to be allergic to cobalt and although I've read of cases in medical literature, I've never heard of a confirmed case via these forums, if it was going to happen it would be after the first or second injection, this is why first injection should be in a medical setting in case of anaphylaxis. But I've never heard of a B12 allergy or intolerance developing over a longer time period.

You could try different forms if you find you react better to one B12 form than another. Obviously take care to rule out other conditions/causes especially if B12 does not affect certain symmptoms. With absorption issues, vitamins like D and Folate are often affected too.

A hundred years ago b12 deficiency (or rather pernicious anemia because they didn't know what b12 was in those days, only thought of it as the "extrinsic factor") was treated by letting patients eat quite a lot of liver, preferably raw or lightly cooked. From what I've heard b12 is not that heat sensitive, so even normally cooked liver should give an amount of b12 that would be hard to get from other types of food.

Milk, fish and beef etc are also rich in b12, but you can only eat so much of those, so liver appears to be the most efficient way to get b12 from food.

If you can eat liver, that could be a way of increasing your intake of b12 and several other minerals and vitamins, like folate for example, and hopefully not get the same reaction as from supplements.

Liver is quite rich in vitamin A though, which some people need to be extra careful with, like women who are pregnant.

Do you know if you have any absorption problem like pernicious anemia or gluten intolerance?

For vitamin d, try to get a lot of sun in spring and summer.

Hi Rosejo,

I was diagnosed with PA in December. I didn’t get the right treatment to start with (unfortunately). The doc treating me initially said one injection a week! My body would then really have terrible vibrations that were so scary. Eventually I found a doc who put me on loading doses and explained that all the receptors in my were reacting to the b12 and were then activated. But when no more b12 was injected they would spasm and be searching for more b12. Anyways that’s how he explained it to me. I started getting regular injections and he monitors me closely, every 3 weeks. But I no longer have vibrations and my symptoms are so much better. I had a startling b12 level of 152. The reason I am telling you this is because regular every other day injections is preferable to one injection a week or every few weeks when you are starting off. I hope you can push through and get the treatment you need.

To be honest don't have those symptoms except fatigue. My only suggestions are that many other diseases are caused by what we put in our bodies and how it reacts like putting the wrong type of petrol into one's body. Always look at gluten tests their cannot be relied on here. Gut health is important. I'm on a low carb diet because hubby is pre diabetic and we r both realizing fatigue with cooked starches. I pass out at lunch after eating bread with something. I have amazing energy after eating low carb for two weeks. Lastly and more important jump all over your doctor regarding your symptoms and research your symptoms ND insist on appropriate blood tests and any other tests. I'm in the US and after covid the medical environment r in financial crisis and doctors aren't paying attention as they did as they r over whelmed with cutbacks. Don't slip through the cracks.
