pernicious anaemia on the telly!

good morning everyone.

I hope you are all getting the help you need.

Did you see the latest Downton Abbey film on the TV a few weeks ago?

Lord Grantham wife was feeling very I’ll and her doctor told her she might be dying with cancer.

At the end of the film he called to tell her [can’t ever imagine a doctor calling on us can you !] that she hadn’t got cancer but this thing called pernicious anaemia and whilst the treatment wasn’t pleasant she wasn’t going to die.

This was in the 1930’s. What’s happened since then!

Take care everyone.

I believe Lord Merton was also concerned about having pernicious anemia but was then told 'panic over' since it was iron deficiency anemia. Although this article states it probably wouldn't have been much less pleasant and he still would've suffered.

Either way, you're right that medical science simply has not progressed in that time. So little is understood about nutrition or blood-born diseases, it boggles the mind to think that medical education is not reserving time in the curriculum to teach medics about this stuff.

I notice the Doctors in my local surgery specialise in 'injection therapy' where they inject steroids into the joints. They seem more than happy to give people those, but less happy to offer life-saving B12 injections?

Who would've thought that 100 years later nothing much would've changed!

thank you for replying Pickle 500. I totally agree with everything you say especially regarding injection therapy, I’ve seen that advertised at our surgery too.

Thank goodness we have this forum and we can all help and advise each other of any changes and the best way forward, I wish you well. X

I laughed out loud in the cinema when I heard that! I think in the 1930s she would have ended up in an asylum

I think we could end up in one now if some of the medical profession had their way !

I was told at the very beginning it was all in my mind before pernicious anaemia was diagnosed over 40 years ago.
