The recent discussions regarding ferritin have made me wonder if I need to have mine checked. I am seeing my PCP tomorrow and I am wondering if I should ask for this test. So far, my doctors here have used serum B12 (I know, irrelevant if supplementing but they check it anyway), MMA, and homocysteine.
I have had an iron panel about a year and half ago which was all normal but a ferritin level was not included.
I have been supplementing for a year and a half (self-injecting) and have not seen any improvement in my spine pain...in fact, it has gotten worse.
It just occurred to me that my B12 was so bad for so long before I started treatment, that perhaps my spine de-myelinate and this increase spine pain is a result of that.
Sorry for switching topics. Just wondered if there would be any value in have a ferritin test.
Thank you. I appreciate any feedback.

Ferritin is generally a good measure of iron status but it doesn't tell the whole story - if you had a full iron panel and that was okay it would trump a ferritin result anyway.
