Tingle Tingle Burn Burn

Hello Folks, . I have had tingling and hot hands and feet for over 18 months. Been v worried about it for ALL that time too. I had a nerve conduction test on my feet today, and the Consultant told me I have some sensory nerve damage in my feet.

She also said tests are needed for vitamin deficiency. Having been borderline anemic for a long time, and been with Dr Google, I suspect B12 and or B9 deficiency.

But my last FBC / RBC results were okay except for hint of anemia. My diabetes tests were average as well.

I don't know what specific tests to talk to my GP about to get to a clearer picture on where the problem starts here with a vitamin deficiency?

Also, I assume ( pernicious) anemia causes B12 issues...not the other way around...?

All help, suggestions and advice is very much appreciated and warmly welcomed.

Thank you

When people post about the feeling of burning, especially of feet, I quite often post this link.

It is getting on a bit but nonetheless it does give an overview of the causes of burning feet.

Thank you kindly Helvella. It was good of you to send me those links. But I am completely foxed here, as I have always kept to a good diet. All foods I cook myself etc. Eating meats, fish, greens, salads etc all the time. I was told it might have been psychosomatic six months ago, but things got worse. Now the Nerve Conduction test has shown nerve damage. That's evidence I whatt to use to get the right tests. I just need to get more awareness on those i.e. the specific tests, as there are so many related to vit deficiencies like B12, B9 and Ferritin.

I will keep trawling! Thank you once again..

Seemingly good diet doesn't preclude deficiencies!

I doubt it is psychosomatic (but not being suitably qualified, that is just an uninformed opinion).

FBC can miss combined iron deficiency and B12 deficiency. The simplistic view is small red blood cells suggest iron deficiency, large one suggest B12 deficiency. But both together can (approximately) cancel each other out. Look for Red cell Distribution Width (RDW). That tends to rise if you have both.

That's v useful. A combined deficiency. Oh dear. I thought it would be one or the other. I also didn't realise the RBC size could be an indicator. Thank yoo Helvella. Do you happen to know if the NHS do the active B12 and MMA blood tests or B12? I just read in here that they are more useful ...diagnostically? If that is a word!

A few bits of the NHS can do Active B12 - but only a few. MMA also rare.

But I'm more at home on thyroid than B12. Just noticed your post in passing.

Have you considered thyroid issues?

...Then I am doubly grateful you popped up with some info and advice. Yes..I had a Thyroid screen this year.. As I am on 20% energy for most of the day, but nothing there. But again...big Thank Yoo!

And they only did a TSH and pronounced that you had no issue?

That would be typical. But a TSH of, say, 4 could be within reference interval but ignored. Though few would have such a high TSH and be well.

Yes..you are right it was a TSH...I will look up the result. Jeez

hi Treesong …. Yes..I had a Thyroid screen this year.. As I am on 20% energy for most of the day, but nothing there. But again.

As you will glean from this group … the interpretation above very much depends on who’s reading and reporting on your results and their knowledge. The results and levels some see are acceptable or normal are actually showing levels that are dangerously low … b12 levels for me were low but GP was saying normal for a long time. It’s always worth running results through the groups here on the site . The knowledge here is incredible and sometimes reveals more than one issue. Good luck … your in a great place now … I am so thankful to all here as I have learnt so much

I feel so unwell/weird every single day and I just got my bloods done (again - for the millionth time!!! Lol) and every single time everything comes back 'normal'. So I decided to just take taking sublingual iron and B12 anyway (I've had Crohn's disease for 21 years ) and voile -I started to feel a little bit better! I couldn't make it up my sister's staircase previous to that!

I started to feel unwell about 9 years ago, and symptoms have progressively gotten worse & worse every year (my mum has similar symptoms and shes been hypothyroid for decades), I was bedridden/housebound - my fatigue was so bad. My symptoms are the same as yours. I got to the point where I could hardly breathe too. My arms & hands started first...then my legs & feet. Numbness, tingling, pins & needles. I ended up with proprioception problems (I have MDDS 24/7 - look that one up), speech problems and ataxia (trouble walking) too. Sooooo many symptoms! Had 3 readings done by 3 separate psychic/mediums (take that as you will), and my partner that passed away unexpectedly, came through to all of them telling them that I have an undiagnosed problem with my thyroid - and that it's not being picked up because it's fluctuating significantly.

You guys are GREAT on here btw - seriously!!! 🙏💖

Hi LouBee73,

Do you have any recent blood test results? I use both the PAS and the thyroid forum.

If you think that there is a possibility you could have a thyroid problem I would post on the thyroid forum and the members there could make suggestions that could help you.

Best wishes.

Hi LouBee

Thank you for your reply. I cant advise or help you at all. But I do send best wishes. It seems to me that your GP should be helping you fight your conditions and health problems. As the nuerological damage seems to indicate B12 and or Thyroid issues.
