My resting heart rate is much higher than it used to be. I’ve had a lot of stress lately and thought that was the reason but reading the symptoms I see that can be one of them. Two weeks to get Drs appt. Do other people have this? Does it improve with B12 injections fairly quickly or should I get treatment from GP who have been difficult anyway.
Thanks

I didn’t have a raised resting heart-rate with other B12 deficiency symptoms , but I used to get palpitations from time to time . . I know that isn’t exactly the same as your symptom ,but we are all different . I used to almost faint when they happened . G.P. said there was nothing wrong with my heart , and I was sent on my way . ……
But after my diagnosis of P.A, by a positive test for Intrinsic Factor Antibodies, and sufficient B12 injections ( now self -injected , as I need weekly ones) I have been free of these “funny turns” ..for over 8 years . So definitely, B12 deficiency can affect the heart -rate .
Do you have other B12 deficiency symptoms? It would be so very unusual to only have this one symptom with B12 deficiency. I had several other symptoms.
Thank you for your reply. I became unwell in May after minor op followed by infection. I had balance issues, confused palpitations nausea wt loss etc. I saw ent neurologist cardiac guy and nothing found . In the end I had private blood test done which showed lowB12 and high IFA. Long fight with GP etc and starting injections in 7 weeks. I had loading doses privately. I know should be more frequent with GP but has made me v stressed so doing my own. My husband and daughter are both not the best at moment and there are only so many battles you can fight! I’m glad you’re doing well and appreciate the feed back on here. I get quite confused on some sites!
I can understand that . If you read the posts on the forum , you can see that we battle with the medical professions ignorance of P.A. And you will have realised that we all are obliged to self inject to keep well .
I absolutely had a raised heart rate when i was deficient. After about 4-6 months of the loading doses, it went away. I was seriously afraid it wouldn't. My resting right now is 60 BPM, it was 105 when I was deficient. I also had shortness of breath which went away then. In the evening, my heart would pound.
I'm not saying ignore it, especially if you have other symptoms, especially ones like syncope (fainting or near fainting spells) as that can be but is not necessarily a symptom of severe heart issues;
For me I had the shortness of breath, heart pounding in the evenings and the high heart rate which went away after many months of injections. B12 deficiency is a rough road, but getting those shots really helped bring me back to life.
I'll say again that PAS, this forum and the members all helped me through. My journey is not over and never will be, but I'm very much on my feet compared to 2 years ago when I was nearly bed ridden.
If you don't mind me asking, what was your b12 level before injections? Mine was 190, but then again, like they say, the symptoms come on at different levels for different people.
Thank you. I can’t remember my B12 limit but below what it should have been. I have a fair amount of family stress at the moment and not sure what is PA and what is stress! Probably a mixture of both. Will be glad when I can sleep through the night!
Hello! Yes, I also had an elevated resting heart rate of about 100 when I was b12 deficient. I do not remember the exact time frame but it seems that it resolved fairly quickly once treatment began. With ongoing treatment, my resting heart rate is about 70. I also had heart palpitations that also resolved fairly quickly with injections. It’s no wonder anxiety is so bad with high heart rates due to b12 deficiency. Best of luck and I hope you’re feeling better soon.
