Thank you. Hope you are ok.

I know you are not the best with the links. May I be of assistance ? But please tell me if I put the wrong one - it has been known especially on my wonky donkey days.

Dr David Perlmutter is an American functional and holistic doctor who specialises in neurological disorders. He definitely knows about nutrition.

Hi Narwhal, Even on your wonky donkeys days, you come up trumps. 👍Yes that is the Link. Its frightening to know that so many medications can hinder B12.

I will have to look into his work at some stage.

I am bearing up, Specialist is taking far more interest in B12 Deficiency after writing to him last week. Today he had further nerve blocker/steriod injection..... No different at the moment. Tomorrow, more MRI Scans including brain. Then appointment in two weeks. Just be glad to get a diagnoses, so we know what we are up against.

How are you getting on? Any progress yet?

Best wishes and hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

I’m glad I put the right link. Good to hear you are bearing up, you are a trooper. Let’s hope the consultant does take B12D very seriously. Plus, the scans/tests show something conclusive so that there is proper treatment and a proper plan of care.

I’m pretty ok thank you. I still ignore most of my housework preferring to use my energy 4 or 5 times a week to go for a swim in the morning. Every afternoon, I have to lie down (my pain score hits 9 or 10 out of 10). My microbiology studies are on hold, not feeling it but I’ll get my mojo back.

What is housework!!! Lol

Yes it has also be neglected here, Good to go swimming, keeps the circulcirculation going.

The Pain is the hardest and most complicated of all especially nerve pain. Better to find comfy position and try and relax.

Sorry your studies on hold, once recouperated I am sure you will pass with flying colours.

Rome wasn't built in a day.

Keep safe

Thank you Sallyanni, interesting reading. I knew about metformin and omeprazole (et al) but not furosemide and aspirin. Will need to make sure GP is keeping on top of bloods!

Thanks, Hidden .

I found that, when at my worst, antibiotics gave me bad vertigo and constant headache (presumably affecting my B12). Specifically, Metronidazole - which I needed twice for gum infections - and Doxycycline, which I took as a trial for SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth).

A difficult one, since B12 deficiency can mean that you are both prone to infections and unable to fight them off easily.

As for SIBO trial (breath test results "inconclusive")- the antibiotics did nothing apart from the depletion ! So GP ruled that out.

I have got a copy of Drugs That Deplete : Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin) from the University of Maryland Medical Centre. (umm.edu/health)

Always useful to have a couple for comparison - and update.

I have also found that certain antibiotics have majorly aggravated my B12 deficiency symptoms. I had a long term constant headache as a result of taking ofloxacin (a type of quinolone) - B12 injections resolved this for me.

Tetracyclines (which includes Doxycycline) are also mentioned here: stlukes-stl.com/health-cont... No references are provided, but the website does have some kind of creditation for providing health content.

Wow, this is very interesting, thank-you, particularly as I was on becatide (beclomethasone) for my entire childhood. I wish they gave references though!

For me however, I have found quinolone antibiotics to be particularly problematic in causing B12 deficiency. A very obvious deterioration on taking them and symptoms resolved with b12 injections. They are not mentioned on that site, but are here: stlukes-stl.com/health-cont... Again, not referenced, sadly, but an acredited site.
