Have you been tested for deficiency?

Yes I have

Never give up on the B12, even if you feel side effects. Vitamin deficiency recovery is a counter-intuitive process that often gets worse before it improves.

CBD oil can help you relax. Otherwise if the depression is stopping you from doing what you need to do then depression meds may help.

You may have to ride it out for a while but also increase your frequency/dosage. Injections will resolve the issues quicker.

I wondered if b12 injections were offered if you've tested deficient in b12.?Was folate iron vit d okay?

What type ate you taking?

Methylcobalabin doesn't suit everyone.

Tablet sublingual or injectiin.

If you are getting g affects at least you are absorbing it.

So if a supplement needed use cyanocobalamin?

Alana, are you not able to get injections?

Are you sure the supplements caused it? Do you think yohbate able to absorb enough .

Depression can be a symptom of the deficiency

Same happened to my brother. - Depression and anxiety after 5 hydroxocobalabin injections in 10 days. Still feeling awful 3 weeks after fifth injection.

We thought he would get better with the shots. I am searching night and day for an explanation and would really like to know, when it will get better.

5 shots is not very much. In the UK it's 6 in two weeks and (hopefully) ongoing if you have neurological complaints.

Does your brother have a PA diagnosis?

Perhaps you could do a separate post to get help with this.

We still dont know whats the cause of the B12 deficiency - so no PA diagnosis yet. We are waiting for new blood test to be taken 2 month after these booster shots.

For a while he has been having this inner tremor feeling, brain fog and so on. But the depressive symptoms and anxiety went through the roof after injections.

Im new to this forum and not that used to write in english. But im happy I found it and might do a separate post.

Thank you

Unfortunately lots of symptoms can emerge when therapy starts. Many people can feel worse before they feel better. Find ways to stay calm, not stressed and sleep as much as possible. CBD oil can be helpful.

2 months to retest? A long time and not really much point in retesting.

Have you let the Dr's know that he's worsened? May be worth letting them know.

Dr knows. My brother is in contact with psychiatric departement as he is going to join some group session and individual therapy.

Time will tell if antidepressants are recommended. Im a bit concerned at how his fragile nervous system is going to react in that case. On the other hand - maybe its necessary for a period until he has healed a bit.

Neurologist in december.

In Denmark they give 5 injections in 10 days. Usually injection 2-3 month apart after that although the few experts advise to give more often if symptoms persist.

Worse before better - seem very individual. I guess we have to see - one day at a time.

Thank you so much for advice 🙌🏼

Pickle500 is spot on. When I first got my six injections over two weeks everything went significantly worse. It was horrendous and unbearable. Soon after I went to daily and my god it was even worse. It took well over a year before mental side got better although physically I improved faster.Doing daily, changing your diet and taking correct supplements is the SAS approach to healing. Only a very few will do it. Two and a half years later I am so much better but it was the worst experience I have had for well over two years. My research led to me see that daily was the way forward to heal as much as I could.

.. Well over a year for the mental part. That sounds unbearable!

My brother also changed his diet: No sugar, alcohol, gluten or lactose.

Did you pull through without antidepressants?

For how long did you do daily injections?

Thank you so much for sharing 🙌🏼

I cannot stress this enough BUT under no circumstances should your brother take ANY kind of anti-psychotic drugs for atypical behaviour. The side effects of anti-psychotic drugs are horrendous, every single study has shown healthy diet and regular exercise are significantly more beneficial than anti-psychotic drugs - which just reduce symptoms but do nothing for the cause. That is what B12, supplements and change of diet are for - treating the cause. Anti-psychotic as with all modern drugs destroy the body especially the gut.

I have taught psychology for 20 years at A level and degree level, thus I know so much more than any useless quack (Doctor).

I had well over 40 symptoms, some psychological and some physical. ALL have dramatically improved, except my worst one which is brain fog (which haunts me). However, I think my brain fog is due to candida overgrowth or/and lymes.

I have no easy way to say this but small nerve fibres take two years to start to heal, thus if your brother has neurological damage this is the realistic time scale.

I have been doing daily for 2 years now, but I also went to an organic diet, avoided gluten and diary and took lots of supplements. I also do not drink alcohol, smoke or take caffeine - all of which are terrible for PA/B12.

I also use both methyl and hydrox as I wanted to make sure that if one was working better for me than the other I was taking it. However, I did mainly do methyl - which can be rather intense mentally etc.

Like I say to everyone - I took the SAS approach to treating my PA.

Im with you all the way. My brother is just so desperate these days - looking for quick release. Dr told him 6 weeks for antidepressants to work - so not a quick fix anyway.

Previous Dr Quack said: B12 at 159 is not deficiency, you need SSRI - antidepressants. My brother took ONE and felt like max trembling for 10 days… I need to remind him when desperate.

Brain fog went away pretty fast - also stomach problems are better. Pins and needles persist and anxiety and depressive symptoms are by far the worst right now.

Worse before better - I read somewhere it happens for 1 of 10 patients. Any theory?

Again - thanks for sharing. - Im so happy I found this site.

If brain fog had gone away then he should be celebrating. SSRI's have so many side effects, they attempt to alter brain chemistry which for me is a serious no no. In fact, they just dull down the individual so they do not feel symptoms as bad, they do not actually treat the cause of anxiety and depression.ALL illnesses and Viruses are due to lack of chemicals within the body, I am certain of it.

Viruses for example are not alive, they are solvent bodily detoxifications within cells due to high levels of toxins in the body due to poor diet, pollutants in water and air, pesticides, medical drugs, crap in vaccines etc.

Your brother is on the right path - DIET is ESSENTIAL - eat organic, avoid gluten, avoid diary, reduce sugar, and supplement.

His b12 of 159 is seriously low - anything under 400 is a deficiency - I was 154, 152, 151 and was told I was fine - a nurse saved my life after 27 visits with various doctors - medical negligence.

1. Diet

2. Only drink water (filtered via an electronic water filter) - heavy metals and fluoride in the water makes us ill and damaged pineal gland. Or coconut water, coconut milk as a treat.

3. Exercise but never push it - i started playing 3 holes of golf, then slowly went to 5, then 6 then 8 then 9 then 12 etc.

4. Supplement

5. Inject b12 at least one times per day

6. Check folate and ferritin as these are usually low with low b12 as these work together - low in folate or ferritin means poor absorption of b12.

7. Take pro biotics for gut - yogurt, saukraut etc.

My mother had pernicious anaemia and so do I.

Unfortunately my mother (after years of B12 injections) was told by GP that her bloods were now fine and she needed no more injections.

Unfortunately, due to this GPs advice my mother developed stomach cancer due to not having regular B12 injections and died prematurely.

I always thought that people who had pernicious anaemia that they had to have regular B12 injections due to the fact that the stomach couldn't absorb B12.

They do.There is no cure for PA. B12 is not a cure, it is a lifelong necessity.

shaws profile image

Therefore GPs should not tell a patient who has pernicious anaemia that B12 injections should be stopped..

Cherylclaire profile image
CherylclaireForum Support in reply to shaws

No they shouldn't.They also should not be using serum B12 tests to check levels after injections - they will be high.

They should also not be using the IFab test as a means of stopping B12 injections.

Only 40-60% of those with PA have positive IFab test results.

There is currently no PA test as such.

So how can B12 injections be stopped safely ?
