I have been suffering with low iron for a number of years and for the first time I have had Serum Iron Tests. Can anyone help me understand the resultsbefore my Hematologist phones me next week

Serum Iron Level 18.1 umol/L

Serum TIBC 84 umol/L

Transferrin saturation index 22%

Serum Transferrin Level 3.35 gl

On your results there shoukf be brackets on the right giving thr 'in range numbers.Iron is complex and has to be looked at all together.

Pernicious anaemia is a gut problem as not producing Intrinsic factor to process b12 .

Scientist, not medic.

More results and ranges would be helpful; isolated values and no reference ranges make interpreation difficult.

Things that would help are FBC data and ferritin also.

Iron deficiency is a symptom of something else, which needs to be addressed. Your Haematologist will be able to help.
