More negligence

Nackapan profile image
32 Replies

My daughtef has 10 weekly NHS B12 injections .

She is going on holiday. She has asked to have her b12 injection before she goes. Two days early.

Refused. I advised her to ask her Gp to 'sannction it'

Gp refused .

We all know the above takes days .

Unbelievable and in my eyes negligent

Are you really surprised nackapan. No interest in the patient's welfare at all, which is sadly lacking today.

Frustrating for you and your daughter

I am surprised as my surgery would've done it

in reply toNackapan

I am not sure my surgery would or would not !That's why we have our own supply. It's really difficult today, what we think is simple in giving an injection two days early is a no no to her surgery ! Beggars belief.

Totally bonkers! 😔

If holidaying in the Uk, ask for a prescription then maybe a surgery on holiday will do it. Perhaps phone a surgery at holiday destination to ask. Some surgeries in holiday destinations have special time slots reserved for holidaymakers. .

Good idea

I think my supplies will be useful on this occasion!

Otherwise a ruined holiday.

I live over 40 miles away.

We haven't the energy to fight it. Her decision anyhow

Takes hours getting through.

Days chasing letter reply

I actually think it's cruel given her medical conditions

Not a day earlier but with my surgery if they can’t get you in ! It’s the first available day doesn’t matter how long after your B12 due .

How petty can you get! As if having her injection 2 days early is an issue. However, having it 2 weeks late is not a problem to them, but may well be for her. A bit of common sense wouldn't go amiss here. I hope she gets sorted soon.

Nackapan profile image
Nackapan in reply toCatlover3

Thanks. It's booked for her return. I will help out .Shouldn't happen.

Nackapan profile image
Nackapan in reply toCatlover3

Yes will ruin her holiday. In my opinion needs a higher frequency anyhow Anyhow will sort

You could speak with the surgery manager?

Or have it done at a pharmacy, your repeat prescription will have the b12 on it so it could be prescribed their at the pharmacy and any issues the pharmacy can phone your GP

Nackapan profile image
Nackapan in reply toLittleA

I think a good idea. She's decided not to fight

Hasn't the energy!

For tge first time ever will take advantage of my stash.

Not local though.

Posted as it's a complete disgrace what we are put through

She has been anti SI up to now as has to have faith in our NHS to survive .

Had years and years of navigating ect to get health care

They really do think they are gods gift Nackapan don't they.it’s peoples lives they are playing with day In day out. These are a right bunch of village idiots that I’m registered with too and unfortunately there are no other practices to change to unless I move house again. That’s why I go to the private gp in Bedford there’s just no alternative.

I’d go to the pharmacy as suggested, worth a try??

Nackapan profile image
Nackapan in reply to

We've sorted it in our own way as above post thanks Totally out of her comfort zone.

Hopefully a letter will be sent by her at a later date .

She's struggling at present and it's 'her fight'

I think wise to concentrate on getting away .

She has to work with the NHS as has complex medical problems.

She doess have a very good consultant at Queens in London.

Also has had scattered good help amongst awful treatment mis diagnosis abd neglect.

The saying yiu have to be well to be ill makes sense to me now .

With refusing b12 2 days before due on her regime that is well in their bnf guidelines of 8-12 weeks will be dealt with at a later date to be sure.

She is moving house soon so how on earth to you 'vet' new surgeries??

My mums due soon .....groan

in reply toNackapan

I know what you mean Nackapan I’ve moved from one disastrous surgery to another so many times, the main hospital here is dredful too.It really is pot luck if you happen to find a half interested gp.It’s only going to get worse.Next you have your mums battle to take on it must wear you down so sad for you where have all our caring gps gone.

I tried 18 phone calls to the surgery one morning last week and eventually gave up trying to get through.

Looks like I’m better off sticking with the combination of private gp who is brilliant and the nhs urgent care facility there’s no chance of seeing a gp here.best of luck and hopefully a great holiday ahead for her.x

I agree gps too hard to contact.Even the nurse exasperated she coukdnt just book me in for the next b12 injection.

So then I'm clogging the phone lines to book.

The 'computer diary ' to book not loaded onto system. !!!

I.T is a seperate job and is not connected transferable to all hospitals??

I got my brain scan put on a cd/ disc to take to a long awaited neuro ophthalmologist appointment. 18m wait

The disc/cd/ dvd waxs requested .

So got it from the radiologist department.

The whole appointment a huge disappointment and they coukdnt even see the mri scan as had no access to the right machine ???

Perhaps it will work on my dvd player ??

"so how on earth to you 'vet' new surgeries??"

NHS website has reviews of GP surgeries.

nhs.uk/service-search/find-...

Put postcode in search which will show a list of GP surgeries.

Click on surgery name which will show an overview page.

There is a tab for reviews and ratings.

Another UK review website that includes GP surgeries

iwantgreatcare.org/

Care Opinion

(Share experiences of healthcare)

careopinion.org.uk/

GP patient survey

gp-patient.co.uk/

If she joins a local PAS support group then maybe someone there will have some suggestions on helpful GP surgeries.

pernicious-anaemia-society....

I think PAS is hoping that face to face meetings will start up again this year.

Some may have Zoom meetings.

I started a thread on useful organisations if unhappy with treatment a couple of weeks ago.

in reply toSleepybunny

I looked at the rating for my old surgery and peoples remarks .... one review was let's just say was not repeatable in any format. Although a true reflection of what locals have said but afraid of stating this out of fear.

Jillymo profile image
Jillymo in reply to

I think most surgerys have similar ratings mine only has one star. All the Drs at my surgery work a two day week, is it any wonder patients cant get appointments ? They are now diagnosing over the damned phone without even seeing the patient !

When we are so unwell the constant battle gets wearing to say the least. As you say nopoint in battling it is exhausting and gets us nowhere.

It makes my so *loody cross how long would it have taken to give the lass her injection - seconds.

I hope she manages to get herself sorted and enjoys her holiday/

Nackapan profile image
Nackapan in reply toJillymo

Yes we will . Shouldn't have to..

Just posted for more awareness

Trying to let it go as can't fight everyone's battles

Mum's due hers soon another stupid rigmarole as tgd system not working.

I'm amongst a peer group of retired NHS workers.

We are all struggling with the mess.

Can't make sense if it from all different positions. Ex gps senior nurses . Pysios no consultant friends lol

Some bits working well.

Gp surgeries failing patients unless a clear pathway 'on screen'

A and Es being used fir getting antibiotics???

I hope something better will evolve and work.

There are lots of rumblings and protest I can assure you from 'ground floor workers' still in post nearing retirement. Very experienced.

Too many bosses

Anyhow I could go on but won't .

I'm trying to keep sone faith as we will all need it at some stage

Jillymo profile image
Jillymo in reply toNackapan

I lost faith a long time ago -----The NHS simply can not cope with all the extra patients and pressure, the system has broken down and is only going to get worse. If I could drive and get to private clinics I would. It is as if we are all chasing our tails and getting nowhere for doing so. I am peeded off with it all.

Like you, I feel compromised about being too critical about the NHS while being a strong supporter- and knowing how public dissatisfaction with a struggling service makes it so much easier for government to dismantle it.

The barrier created between "us and them" is now becoming a problem, especially for the growing numbers of very ill : older patients, those with disabilities, those with mental health issues..... like you said: you have to be well to be ill. That barrier was placed there initially to protect patients and staff, but now appears to be permanent.

Is it still "our NHS", then ?

Somewhere deep inside this awful new system, I like to think that the same GPs are woking hard on our behalf. I don't even know if "my" GP is still there- but should the need arise, I wouldn't want to start this whole process again with an unknown GP.

Memory doesn't serve me well enough for one thing !

A bit like when that telephone "appointment"(interrogation) you had began with a curt "symptoms? " - certainly sets a tone !

in reply toCherylclaire

It's really a problem today. When our friend was seriously ill all we could get was a phone conversation. A neighbour asked what the problems was I explained, we couldn't get an appointment to SEE G.P., and she said why not I've got one tomorrow. She young goes running etc, yet my friend elderly was left on her own slowly deteriorating. Perhaps it's because the older generation are not so assertive .

Cherylclaire profile image
CherylclaireForum Support in reply to

Maybe pay the "concerned well" to book appointments on others' behalf !

Nackapan profile image
Nackapan in reply toCherylclaire

Yes I agree if you can pay.A whole new job opportunity

Problem is the hours in queues for people well enough to be in paid work impossible .

I sti think faced with an actual person than just another voice on the phone is much more powerful.

When my daughter number 27 at the surgery for a drop in phlebotomy session . No appointments possible

One plebotomist !!

Even the receptionist on side as seen visually clogging uo 'their ' waiting room.

I'll just have to toughen up and accept that the world has changed !

I had the same problem over Christmas I cant go no where a week before b12 is due every 8 weeks I have numorse health issues from preventing me going on holiday you can buy b12 spray on amozon too me she must have energy too go on holiday even private doctors won't administrate you have lot too learn re b12 folic acid annimima and whit blood cells and the gut it effects all the organs vitamin D bowel spine the reason they won't give it 2 days sooner say its stupid guidelines of uk nhss when infact its a danger too the liver been through it for 10 years belive me GOOD LUCK

Nackapan profile image
Nackapan in reply toCasasue

Yrs I could undetdtandbit more if outside guidelines but its in the guidelines 8-12 weeks. They just have no idea how dependant most of us are on b12 Injections.

The impact is enormous.

B12 spray doesn't work for her.

Unfortunately.

Yes you go need energy to go away.

When you mention the liver. What reasons have you been given out of interest?

in reply toNackapan

B12 is stored in the liver, and if has been depleted can cause cirrhosis and inflammation etc. ( its absorbed in the illeum) of what I understand.
