What B12 suppliments were you taking ?

A high MCH could and I emphasise could indicate macrocytic anemia from what I have read but dont quote me I am not medically trained.

Instrinct factor often comes back negative.

Red blood cells low - so were mine, were you prescribed anything for this ?

I have not been re -directed to any Specialist at this stage & no follow - up Blood Tests even with levels being what they are -- Unfortunately here in Australia the General Practitioner in many cases look to dealing with an issue rather than a process of finding out the cause.

I have tried a number of B12 Supplements currently only in the last few days have commenced the SeekingHealth Active B12 1000 once again @ (1) Tablet a day plus 1/2 a (500mcg) Cenovis Folic Acid Tablet in the hope that this will allow the absorption of the B12 -- As someone with no medical knowledge to assist me other than that I consider I am not stupid and know my own body - I have a number of issues that could be contributing to the way I have felt now for (4) years and through an uncontrolled process of elimination - I am bungling my way to what I hope will be an improvement on how I feel. I have no wish to take up the valuable time of my GP -- BUT in the meantime I research whatever I can on the information derived from my blood tests and all info I can gather on Celiac Disease -- Spinal Stenosis -- and my age which is (78) -- I believe my GP should be leading my research to eliminate any possibilities of Anemia of whatever form if I have one. I have recently researched Blood Flow to my Toes and find that B3 is a strong possibility -- I commenced B3 in a restricted form due to Toxicity and believe it has made a difference. My Layman or Gut feeling is I lack Blood Flow and in turn lack the oxygen associated -- Foraminal & Spinal Narrowing of Nerve spaces gives Leg , Buttocks & Toe discomfort that prevent my ability to move freely particularly on the Tennis Court. Plus if I don't stay on top of all these issues my head feels foggy at times. Just looking for others who may have similar issues and what they have experienced in their attempts to overcome them. Cheers thanks for your interest. DW

I too have the spinal stenosis and suspected trapped nerves. I thought this to be the cause of the numbness in my legs and feet. This has improved with the regular B12 injections ! I still have the stinging and burning sensations but this is also improving.

I like yourself also feel the Drs should be guiding us not us guiding them. It seems into days modern world they treat the numbers on the blood form but not the cause or the symptoms forgetting we are all individual with different needs.

I was labelled with fibromyalgia - I suffered the most awful foggy head to the point I questioned dementia. This has now completely gone since injecting B12 - I can once again think straight and function as I once used to !

It is difficult to guide you in any sort of direction or advise. My various issues are autoimmune (Aps) sticky blood clotting blood amongst other's. A lack of blood flow would cause some of my symptoms and explain the changes shown on my brain scans.

I am an older lady and found the symptoms debilitating to the point I were so off balance I were frightened of falling. The last thing we want at our age is a broken hip but still my crys at the surgery fell on deaf ear's.

I hope by talking with others and reading various posts you can make some sense of what is causing your ailments.

I hope you get some answer's soon.

Jillymo 😘

Scientist, not medic.

The numbers would be helpful, if you have them available.

Scientist, not medic.

Looking at what you've posted, [my background is in Haematology] then the Haematology data is limited, but from the RBC and MCH, I can deduce that your Haemoglobin level is 14.3g/dL, which is normal. So, not anaemic. Your iron status seems OK; your ferritin has moved about a bit, but ferritin isn't just an indicator of Iron status; it's also an inflammation marker.

Has your folate been measured? Has your thyroid function been assessed?

My guess is that your MCV will be either raised, or at the upper end of normal, and that's what is making me think of Folate.

Good luck!

Do you take folic acid supplement's ? I was prescribed them by my Gp and wondered if my high levels had masked my B12 deficiency.

What can mask a B12 deficiency?

There is concern that high intakes of folic acid from fortified food and dietary supplements might mask the macrocytic anemia of vitamin B12 deficiency, thereby eliminating an important diagnostic sign.

It does make me wonder as your celiac if somewhere along the line you have an absorption issue which I feel they should be looking into. Years ago in our younger years Dr's would have investigated and got to the root cause but these days we are sent round and round in circles without gaining any answer's.

I feel it is out of pure frustration of not being able to function that pushes us to self research - rightly or wrongly ! I wasn't going to sit and watch time pass me by especially at our age - time is precious.

It must be very frustrating as it sounds like you were very much an active person . I must say you have some interesting blood results - I cant say I have ever been tested for copper ! When you read the posts on here it makes one wonder as to why so many of us are suffering. Jillymo
