Advice on autoinjector?

SigNi profile image

Hello all. I am in Germany and thinking of trying an autoinjector for my B12 injections. I prefer the thigh area. Can anyone give any advice on what to order? I have 1ml ampules of hydroxocobalaminacetat. An aside - I am having stinging problems with this - any advice on that as well? Thanks much for the lifeline here!

Is it Pascoe. . . . .I had stinging with it. . . .

Exactly - they were available in a box of 100 and I thought I was being practical. Ha. Do you use a different brand? Thanks.

Yes Pascoe. . . . . .Leg with numb . tingling feeling for a few days. . . .I did not like it one bit. . . . .Tried a half dose and similar happened. . . . . Only new to this and had only used a few vials given to me which were not pascoe. . . . . I have only just received a box of hervert 3000ug I think it is just now but it is high dose which matters not in the greater scale of things . . . . I will be trying the hervert later and will let ye know how I get on. . . . .I didnt know whether the numbness was my own doing or not. . . . I had bought everything as per widely broadcast advice. . . . . .25g needles, draw needles etc . . . . . ..I will take a fraction of a mg to try it. . . . . . Had my loading doses and my world changed for the better. . . . Tingly hands gone. . . . . I had split nails for years which I used epoxy to stop running the length of my nails. . . .Thumb nail was horrendous. . . . Gone . .Totally gone. . . . ..Panic attacks all but gone. . . . . . .Only I had umpteen hospital appointments for camera here and camera there plus ecg's chest x ray's etc I would have been further along the self inject route but didnt want to upset the other research. . . . .Anyhow .. . . .All those things have turned up good I think as I have heard nothing. . . . . Now another thing with the loading was that my chest which has given me trouble for years was much clearer as was my tummy. . . . .I hope that was a reduction in inflammation and will return. . . . . .I will come back today or tomorrow with the results of the hervert. . . . . . . . .Has anyone else had a numb/tingly leg after injecting ever???

Goodness. This can be a rough road. I started out with cyanocobalamin - no stinging. Easy as can be. But I learned that hydroxo can be more effective so I switched to Medivitan. No issues, but wanted to buy a bigger stock and Pascoe was available. I think I may try a small order of Medivitan again and see if it's ok. But will have to figure out what to do with the Pascoe. But no numbness as a result of the injections. Is it possible you hit a nerve? Take good care.

I tried the 3rd little shot into the fatty tissue only and there was still a reaction but more local maybe . . .similar but not the same. . . . .

I dont think I hot a nerve . . . . .I have had nerve hit before and man ye'll know about it. . . . . .Herbert is also 2ml which does not go so well in m shots and 1 ml is about comfort for Sub Q I read. . . . . I was actually pleased with the way the Sub Q went although I read it is slower but this is not a life and death shot requireing immediate effect as such. . . .

I used about a half does of hervert this morning . . .IM. . . .Into the leg muscle . . . . Bear in mind this is the one that comes in 2ml with 3000ug hydroxo . . . . . . .Didnt feel a thing and have had no tingling or numbness at all. . . .I'd think there was nothing wrong with the pascoe other than I reacted a bit to something in it . . . . . I do have a couple of allergies as in I have had anaphylactic shock 3 times in my life so I am never surprised by such. . . . . .The hervert this morn I gave myself 0.1 of a ml first being careful and when I felt nothing wrong after 15 minutes I added a new needle and went again. . . . .

Good to know on the hervert. Thank you. I ordered 10 ampules of panpharma again to see if I get on better with it. I keep all the med box lids to augment my memory. 😂

Never used an auto injecterI do subcutaneous in my thighs stomach.

Can sting anyhow at times when pushing the b12 in.

Do make sure swabbed area is dry

Also b12 warmed a little in your hand .

Thank you. I also saw some other advice after I posted - to make sure there is no droplet on the needle after removing air from the syringe. And of course, to try two needles - one for loading and the other for injecting. I've been too thrifty (and environmentally anxious) to try this. But I now have some larger needles I really don't like using for injecting, so I may give it a go. Thanks much for the response.

Same here, no problem I decide how fast it’s going in.

Check my posts for auto injector information.Regards the stinging, be sure to tap the end of the needle to make sure it's dry before injecting.

Will do. Thank you! Do you just load the filled syringe into AI? Does it help control depth of injection?

Ritchie1268 profile image
Ritchie1268 in reply to SigNi

Yes you do load the filled syringe into it. It's spring loaded so you switch the safety switch off when ready and just press the button. It fires the needle in very quickly but there is no depth control. I always stretch the skin when I inject into my thigh, it goes in that quickly it's very rare I ever feel it.

Funny this should come up on the fyp. My AI device got to me in the post three days ago, and I’ve been staring at the box on my bedroom sidetable ever since...

Having never injected myself before, naturally I’m bricking it. Theoretics are one thing, reality quite another! Of course I know that it really won’t be that bad, that it’s quick and painless (especially with the device), and that hundreds of people do the same without issue...doesn’t assuage the primal fear though😅

But this probably isn’t helping your nerves is it OP? Sorry🤒FWIW the device itself (I got the cheaper AutoMedico, in sky blue) is really cool, and takes a few nasty steps out of the SI equation. I’d probably be even more scared to start SI without the reassurance that I’ll be using it.

Really, I know I’ve got to just sit down now, and methodically go through all the steps to get it over with. Just working up the nerve..

Thank you for the info. Hope you are getting on. It really is just about going through the motions. Right now I’m doing IM in my thigh. I watched a lot of YouTube videos and printed out an injection site chart for reference. I was surprised how easy it was in the end. I also felt a wonderful sense of control & liberation. I hope the AI might be a way to regulate the depth of the injection?

Hi. I am in the USA. I use the Ambimedinc Inject-Ease autoinject. I really like it. Just know that it is for sub cutaneous injections and will only work with an insulin needle. But it is inexpensive and easy to use. I ordered it from Amazon.

I just got my auto injector from Union Medico. Did my first self injection yesterday, yay!

SigNi profile image
SigNi in reply to Shindig1

Yay! Do you just load the entire syringe into it?

Shindig1 profile image
Shindig1 in reply to SigNi

Yes, prepare the syringe as typical then insert into the device. You have to order the injector for the specific size syringe you use.

How did you get along with the Cyno V Hydroxo and what was your does/amount and how often. . . . . . .Just curious. . .. .. . . .Not much info on Cyno

SigNi profile image
SigNi in reply to OldmanD

The dose was 1mg IM in the thigh.

OldmanD profile image
OldmanD in reply to SigNi

Thanks for your prompt answer . . . . . .Yes. . .That is what Hervert Paper work says . . .1ml. .. . . .Ever second day until loaded . . . . .The loading though is not specified and is different for near every country. . . . . Then down to one every month or two as required. . . . . . . .But sure the doctors dont know what to do it seems. . . . . . . . .I'll just take it slowly though.. .. . . . . . dont know why they supply it in 2ml 3000ug vials though. . . . . . .

SigNi in reply to OldmanD

Sorry - this didn't post right? I was fine and had mild improvement. Honestly it was in the very beginning & I was using it to augment the hydroxo from my GP. I definitely had benefit from it - primarily energy improvement. I then ordered the hydroxo as I understood it to be better assimilated. But I honestly don’t feel the difference - every body is different.

OldmanD profile image
OldmanD in reply to SigNi

I agree with you. . . . . . I got Hydroxo from the doctor and the first vials I used for SI were the Hydroxo and although I am only started the Cyno I think I feel the same effects as I did back in August with the Hydroxo. . . . .My energy levels rose after maybe the 4th dose originally. . . . . . I actually made 4 acres of hay here myself and wifey drove the tractor and I stacked it both onto the tractor and in the shed about two weeks after the loading doses. . . . I simply could not have done that for years before although I was still short on breath but there was energy. . . . . . Mind much clearer was also a big thing.. . . . .

Interesting (and wonderful) regarding the energy boost - it's what I lack the most. I may go back to Cyno for a bit just to compare. Also, checked on the additional ingredients in all the hydroxo ampules I've used - Pascoe is the only one containing Sodium Chloride (In Germany - Natriumchlorid). I didn't notice stinging in any of the others which contain sodium acetate, acetic acid, or sodium hydroxide. But I'm no chemist and precise memory is no longer a luxury. Will have to experiment again. May I ask which Cyno you used?

OldmanD profile image
OldmanD in reply to SigNi

I might add SigNi . . . . .Probably belatedly that after using up the Cyno I went back to the remaining Pascoe Hydro and have been using them since with no notable problems . . . . . So maybe something I was doing wrong or didnt notice but it came good . . . . . .Fear is wonderful thing perhaps . . . . .I have a better idea how to perform the procedure now. . . . . .
