Self Injection Advice - Autoinjector

Hello! Please can I ask for some advice? I use an autoinjector when I self inject because I can’t stick a needle straight in me! It has a high failure rate though. No matter how hard I push the needle on the syringe sometimes it just pops off and precious b-12 spills everywhere. Does anyone know why this could be? The angle perhaps? Though I do try to do it straight down. Thank you

I think you probably need to go back to the supplier and ask them. It could be a fault with the machine

What autoinjector are you using? I SI intramuscular with autoinjector without issues (unionmedico one).

As said: union medico. Bought it online through their site, there are images and videos there. For me, it works perfect (now I SI in the thigh).

I just looked up Union medico and there’s quite a choice! Do you know which model you have?

Hi, it’s called autoject 2 - I had to order it from America as I couldn’t find one in UK that would do IM injections

At the store unionmedico.com/store there are only 3 models available, the first 2 ones are the same with different finish (one posh, one plastic) and both are for 90º, the 3rd one is angled for 45º. I have the plastic 90º in lilac, that is Auto-Injector 90º (not the exclusive one).

Hi palmtop.

I looked into these when first diagnosed with PA last year, but they weren't really accessible at the time, unless from abroad.

So is this

auto-injector able to use the Hydroxocobalamin ampoules?

I don't have a clue how they work!

Hi,

The autoinjector replaces your hand only, you need to use a disposable syringe and needle each time, you can load the syringe with anything you want: my choice is B12 ;)

That's great thank you

Hi when you put the needle onto the syringe you need to twist it round till it locks. Give it a pull to check it’s on tight.

Never had this trouble with my union medico injector. As the needle goes onto a syring which is separate from the injector, I can’t see how the injector is causing this to happen.

Please check you are twisting the needle on the syringe tight.

I feel so stupid!! Thank you!! I just push them on, didn’t realise you had to twist. Amazing! Thanks so much - hopefully problem solved!
