Maybe ....who knows really.

If you don't usually have wine on the day of your injection maybe was the wine??

You know how you 'normally ' feel.

B12 on its own can give you a headache at times.

Sorry to hear Cyprus555,

Migraines are horrible. I hope you are feeling better. B12 can cause migraines in the ‘healing’ stage. (After my 11th injection, the only way I can describe how I felt was someone had smashed a TV over my head - pain, static, very odd).

The combination of wine and B12 together could have brought on the migraine. People do have reactions to food, medication and even scents - that’s individual body chemistry. I’m not clever enough for that stuff. Sorry, if that seems unhelpful.

Best wishes.

Thank you 😊

Sorry to hear about your migraine. I find any alcohol makes me feel like a curtain of fog dropping down my head. Sounds weird, but it literally drains me and has only happened since having B12 issues. I can get a headache too, but not a migraine. I have no option but to sleep at this point as I’m so exhausted and am unable to do anything else. If I then have a b12 injection, I completely change as I start to reenergise and wake up etc. The affect both ways is dramatic.

Thanks, never noticed it before as don’t drink much but will now monitor what happens. Stay well.

Hello Cyprus555 I always have a bad head the day after my injection, so much so that I know I have to write that day off and not make any plans. And I avoid alcohol for a good few days either side as this definitely makes things worse for me. As I’m getting older I don’t seem to be able to tolerate alcohol like I used to but think it’s more of a menopausal thing for me.

I would say next injection don’t have a drink and see what happens. Hopefully it was just the wine that made you feel bad as that’s something you can control. Best wishes.

I have to be careful with wine these days, as it can trigger migraines. More sensitive since needing B12 injections.

Hi MariLiz, seems like it’s a trend with the B12 and wine! Guess I’ll have to be a bit more careful with my 2 glasses ! Thk you 😜

I tend to have one glass only, and maybe have another glass the following evening. The after effects are less if I limit it like this.

Hello! I have suffered from chronic migraine. Wine is a known trigger of migraines for some people and it was for me. Luckily, I rarely drink alcohol so it was no big deal for me to give it up. Early treatment with B12 injections did trigger headaches and migraines in me. On the flip side, my migraines are much better controlled now with regular b12 injections as well as Botox injections. Low serotonin levels are linked to migraine. I believe my very first low b12 symptom was migraines.

If you suffer from migraines, I urge you to get treatment. From my experience, there are some really great treatments once you get past the ineffective drugs with horrible side effects. Getting migraines under control has been a complicated journey for me—two sinus surgeries, allergy injections, failed drugs, but I’m in a good place now. Best of luck to you. I hope you feel better!

My migraines were so bad , in bed for 3 days with bucket every 10/14 days , heavy medication and many times a GP visiting to give me injection to stop the vomiting and then one day ending up in hospital. That was My turnaround. My neurologist checked me top to bottom, MRI and CT scans, nerve conduction test and other neurological tests. Blood test showed deficiency in many vitamins including B12, B9/11, the whole B range as a matter of fact and vitamin D as well. After doing a food and drink diary, I found some migraine triggers. Most were citrus related and the chemical variant Ascorbic Acid, widely used nowadays in most food and drink and medicine preparations . Since I have learned to avoid them, an art in it self, together with a strict B12/ B9 regime ( Hydroxocobalamin injections) I have my life back. Taking Alcohol and management of B12 deficiency do not go together I find. I sometimes get away with a very small glass and then for some reason I do not. So I now live without the majority of time and I am perfectly happy 😃 doing so. It’s a choice.

Hi ACritical, glad you got to the bottom of your migraines, I am happy to give up my glass of wine to avoid a migraine if I can be certain it’s that, think a food and drink diary is the way forward. Thk you

There is a possibility that it was sulphates in the wine, rather than the wine itself. I never have headaches after my husband homemade wine but severe headache after shop bought white wine. Also my daughter gets migraines and although this may sound silly, as soon as she feels them coming on she drinks a small can of tonic water and this has been working. I hope you don't think I'm making light of it but it's definitely worth a try, as I say it works for her.I wish you all the best

Ironically, old home winemaking advice often included copious use of sodium metabisulphite tablets (Campden). Indeed, they are still sold in considerable quantities for that purpose.

Hi, I think your right! thanks for that I will definitely give the tonic water a go! Regards Val
