I found it interesting that a blood film was mentioned and wondered how many of you in the UK had had a blood film as part of investigations for suspected B12 deficiency.
Thankyou Sleepybunny. Some of the adverse effects of hydroxocobalamin did cause one eyebrow to lift somewhat! But overall I'd say it's pretty positive; just need to encourage our GP's to read further than the first paragraph....
Rather lengthy list for hydroxocobalamin (which seems to me to include some B12 deficiency symptoms) - yet is apparently harmless for babies, if in breastmilk. No such lengthy list for cyanocobalamin.
Otherwise, yes, advice is pretty clear - yet ignored by so many GPs with regard to both treatment and retesting. Always worth repeating, for forum members, what they should be getting. Shame that so many find it impossible to get anywhere near the correct treatment initially - might save an awful lot of deterioration, particularly neural.
Thanks, Sleepybunny, for the links.
No idea what was done with all the blood I've had taken by haematologists etc - so who knows now whether a blood smear was ever done ? I'd assume so.
None done prior to B12 serum test and treatment though.
