Help ! Extreme fatigue. History of shots:

Last 4th shot in September last year.

Oct: 1 maintenance shot, Nov:0, Dec:0, Jan:0, Feb : 2 shots, March: 0.

Then in April I suddenly get extremely bloated in evenings. Days later fatigue and weakness begins.

Start shots again:

April 18th-1st shot

May 2nd-2nd shot

( Get my levels checked: above 2000- severe bloating continues and tiredness too. 2 docs ask me to stop taking shots)

May 10th -3rd shot ,

May 13th-4th shot.

May 22nd- 5th shot.

Now my fatigue is at its peak. Can't walk for 5 minutes without getting out of breath. I generally load shots twice a week but this time since levels were high ( but symptoms worse unless it's something else) I took in effect a shot weekly. Should I continue taking shots or wait for the 5 shots to kick in ( generally it takes couple of weeks after shots to feel better; but I feel the worst this time). There is an endoscopy waiting if I don't get better because of bloating. I am from Mumbai India.

I woukd get everything elsechecked out you can.

Were you b12 deficient at the start? Or a diagnosis of PA ?

Best to work with your doctors .

perhaps they think b12 starting up symptoms. ??

It often does in the process of healing.

Your decision.

Decide on a frequency of b12 . You know how you feel.

Stick to regime of 2 weekly or monthly rather thsn starting snd stopping. Your levrls need to stay high if you have an absorption problem. Testing kevrks not necessary if on regular injections of b12.

Or pause while investigations take place.

The main thing is to get the medical investigations done.

Full bloods including iron. ferritin . Vitamin D

Folate.

Test for celiac disease .

Hy-pylori

Tape worms

Whatever the doctors want to investigate.

Wotk with one in a methodical way.

Bloating has many many causes .

All tests hopefully your doctor has done.

To rule out anything else going on.

Endoscopy.

I am not medical.

I hope you get a clear pathway of treatment very soon.

Take care.

Thank you for your helpful reply. Yes, what you say makes total sense to me. About folic acid; if my RBC are in normal range, does it mean I have normal folic acid too ?

Folate levels are measured on your blood test separately or often done with b12. A range is given. Folic acid csn be taken on prescription for a short while if Low or a maintenence doses of 200-400 mg daily.

I'm the UK woman of child bearing age are advised to take 400mg folic acid daily . A higher amount by prescription only for a month.

Naturally found in greens snd chick peas ect.

The endoscopy May be to take a sample of your stomach lining to check for intrinsic factor. I had that in Spain, it is a definitive way to see if you have Pernicious Anaemia. It doesn’t hurt Harrystar, bit unpleasant because of gag reflex but take sedation if they offer.

I don't think my doc is even aware of intrinsic factor. It's just to have a peep to understand why I have many gastro issues. I don't even know what all tests are needed for b12 other than the serum levels.
