Body aches after injection

Hey guys

Just got my first B12 injection yesterday. I’ve noticed I have pretty bad body aches in my neck, chest, and arms. It feels like swollen lymph node type pain, but I don’t actually feel any nodes or swelling when I run my hands over the achy spots.

I’m also getting more “cold spots”, brain fog, and that weird tongue itchy sensation that comes and goes.

I have seen some faint improvement in my mood, energy, and social abilities.

Are the body aches typical or is it a bad sign? I’m on trial injections. My B12 levels are in the low normal range, but they dropped by almost 100 in the span of a month, and my MCV is just high enough to get flagged. Been that way for years. So I’m kind of a “trial injection” person and more nervous for that reason.

A reaction is what you want.

It's very early days as first ever injection.

It should awaken cells starved.

My body did all sorts of weird things on the loading doses.

It won't do you any harm.

It also takes time .

Keep a symptom diary perhaps.

List the symptoms that were bothering you before b12 started is akso useful.

That does sound like a big drop from? to 100 less . Was it a total b12 serum test?

Good you've been offered the loading doses

I was in the low 400s, then the low 300s. Homocysteine was high.

I just worry about it being an infection or something odd. It definitely started after the first shot. I don’t have a fever though and the swelling seems to be coming down. Now I’m afraid to get more shots. Aaaaaaaaaaaaa

I don’t remember having any side effects when starting my b12 shots. I hope your symptoms go away soon. Regardless, the injections should improve things eventually. It might be the b12 shot, but it may be something else. I would monitor your symptoms, write them down, and see if you can find a pattern.

I find things get worse before they get better. Good luck.

I had such bad side effects when I began weekly injections that I dreaded receiving them in the beginning when I was very low in B12. My very first injection (monthly, initial treatment) didn’t make me feel worse, but I wasn’t as symptomatic and thus presumably not as deficient as the second time around. Weeklies made me feel worse at first, although I did feel improvement within 3 days. It also depends on how low you are and for how long. I gradually began to feel better and the payoff was life changing. Stick with it! B12 isn’t harmful and whatever your body doesn’t need, it will rid itself. Good luck. Hope you feel better soon. B12 deficiency takes time to develop. One can’t expect an overnight miracle with one or even a few injections. Hang in there!
